Re: Wave of gentrification that leapfrogged the Hudson has reached new heights - Jersey City Heights

snorky, i feel for you. we had the EXACT same problems during the summer when we first moved in. Not only the noise but people hanging out on our stoop (which is behind a gate) acting like THEY owned the place. Best thing we did was call the cops EVERY time they got loud (and for those about to bitch that noise is part of where we live, i'm not talking about a radio here or there, i'm talking about thumping that shakes walls, and then people screaming on top of that, all at 2am).
Also we went to a couple neighborhood watch meetings. Not sure where you live, but once we went we realized there were others on the block as sick of the BS as we were, and we just talked about it.
Getting people out b/c of noise complaints is really not going to happen and the cops told us the best way to target the drug houses and the loud overall houses were to submit zoning violation complaints b/c both were overcrowded w/ illegal apts (some noisy neighbor knew that.)
well we did that, and i noticed a few months later suits showing up to the houses...
2 years later our good friends bought and fixed up the drug house and the other house was refurbished and rented out to about 6 people instead of 16.
Just keep on calling the cops (non-complaint number) and try and see if you have a neighborhood group.
good luck!

perhaps not purely scientific research here, but in my four years of living in the heights (right off the elevator) my elevator ride during commuting hours has gotten a LOT more hobokenified in the past year or so (probably past 2).

What you may ask is that? Khaki pants, blue shirts, and jogging blondes along palisades ave. thats what.

pure science people.

oh don't forget the new dog run and park association who did a lovely planting outing in the spring...(washington park)

AMEN!!!! To each his own. Go out and explore a neighborhood fully before putting your 2 cents in. Contrary to many of you, Kevlar is not a mandatory accessory when you leave downtown.

as for late night, i hear you, there's no easy door to door routine, however with the money saved living in the heights, the occasional cab from hoboken to the heights ($7-$8) is in budget.....

the heights is a BIG area. have you ever been? i used to live right by the grove street path. now i live in the heights. my commute is the exact same time. depends on where you work in the city (if at all). when we were looking 4 years ago they wanted 400K for 500sqft in downtown, wasn't worth it then, still not worth it. couldn't be happier in the heights....

+1 on this. the guy thats always there is very helpful too. prices are really good as well. We always went to Lowes on 440 and while the selection was good, we found the prices in the heights better, as well as the customer service. they also have some amazing pepper plants in the summer...

In Jersey City try the Hudson Farmers Market up in the Heights section at the foot of Bowers St. on Kennedy Blvd. There is always an array of plants year round and especially during holidays. They also have a small parking lot on the premises. I would give it a shot.

i've noticed this late at night (which seems to be fine) but 6pm? thats too early, and as a frequent pedestrian to this crosswalk, there is no way those cars are stopping for pedestrians.
email our trusty Gaugahn and tell him to extend the red/green lights past rush hour.
i'll be interested to see if he responds, or does something about it.

i agree.
not every SINGLE person that is associated w/ healy is a crook. give me a break

at least the guy has an education, and if his mom was great (going on iwitness testimony) perhaps he was raised right, and can rise above all the BS over there in city hall. lord knows we need someone good.

excuse my ignorance and i am ready for the onslaught of healy haters, but can someone tell me why they are requesting healy's resignation?

Don't tell me its b/c he sucks, or b/c he was convicted at the jersey shore. I want to know what is the reason? i am not a healy cheerleader by ANY MEANS, however i fail to see his name on the indictments, and i just don't see the logic in him getting booted b/c he surrounds himself with felons, i believe to be a part of hudson politics everyone is elbow to elbow w/ these creeps. yes, it shows poor judgement, and yes he probably has does something, but as of right now he is NOT under indictment, so what is the legal basis for the call for his resignation based on?

this isn't a post to get people all riled up, i truly would like to know the legal backbone of this rally cry.

post office complaints?
#46
Home away from home

i'm sure there's a number somewhere, but my quick search on here netted me w/ nothing.

We've had things go missing in the mail before, but just recently we were expecting a $100 gift card to home depot from florida. When we never received it we looked into it. Apparently it was used in woodbridge NJ. This means some f*ing UGH from the post office stole it.

I'm sick of this crap and i want a name of someone in charge that i can register this complaint to. again, this isn't the first thing to go missing, but i'm just sick of this crap and i remember reading on here that there is actually someone at the post office that is receptive to complaints. any help would be appreciated....

if i was columbo i'd find out what mail sorter or delivery person lives near woodbridge and i'd start breaking kneecaps.

any more updates on the hours being illegal?

i'd like to go down there around 9:15 just to see. Does it have anything to do w/ security? are they just too cheap to keep the lights on/ security going? that would seem par for the course. Millions on a walkway thats closed during the busy hours. They probably didn't make a big deal of a ribbon cutting b/c of all the uproar about the hours. You know the people in charge, keep their heads in the sand and avoid, avoid, avoid.

Concerned citizen, you raise some very good points, but i truly hope you're not just writing that letter here. Send it to the paper, send it to the mayor, send it to your ridiculous council person. Read it aloud at the next community meeting. Thats what its going to take to bring the issue to light. Good luck. keep talking until someone listens.

oh, and i take the 126 (willow ave) bus. Its a different gate than the washington bus, and i could swear the hamilton park busses start before 6. You may want to check the schedule for the "willow ave" 126. Its out of gate 205 during rush hour...

the 126 is all i know of. Buses don't run thru holland tunnel b/c the bus station is the port authority which is outside the lincoln tunnel. Unless there's jitneys, but i've never seen them in that area going to manhattan.

perhaps i'll get slammed for this question, or maybe i'll actually get some real insight, but why are they calling for the resignation of healy?

it is clear many do not like him, and yes i know he is "unnamed official #4" but he was never charged w/ anything. I understand the cries for vega to resign and i join in on them, but i wonder if adding healy to the mix will just hurt the cause to get those who are actually under indictment to step down.

As for innocent until proven guilty, you are right. However, tapes don't lie, AND while you are fervently defending yourself against the US government, i have a strong feeling your not going to be able to live up to your duties to the people. The right thing to do is step down. if you're cleared i'll be the first one to swallow my words, but i REALLY doubt it will ever come to that.

um TWO of the people ran AGAINST healy. lets not get the healy bashing to cloud the overall corruption. far as i've read he's not being indicted. yes i do know that he surrounds himself w/ those that are being brought down, but if you're going for a slogan, bashing healy is a cop out and part of your overall agenda. we know, the majority of you hate healy. this is much bigger than that. where's your disdain for the a##HOLES actually on tape taking bribes? where's your outrage for them?

and i do understand that "all summer meetings are in the daytime" i would think this would fall under special circumstances and moved to a time when the most people could attend. Again, this is a joke and of course i'll voice my opinion thru emails to my councilman, only to probably be ignored.

i would love to join in, but like most people i know i work a day job. The fact that the council is having a meeting when i would assume the majority of tax payers are at work is a f&()+ing joke. if i seem pissed, i am. I pay a lot of damn taxes and everyone should have their voice be heard. the fact that other meetings are at 7pm and this is in the daytime just shows me the cowards that run our government.
