Can't address UPS, but if you live on Cole Street and have what I think is a Chinese name your package from Walmart is sitting in the vestibule of my house waiting to be picked up and redelivered by USPS.

This might catch more attention from the Wall Street types than the current campaign. Now let's see if cheaper borrowing is reflected in a lower budget.

Do we have or heard of any homeless shelters run by the major religious organizations in the NJ / JC ?

I'm aware many soup kitchen are run by charity organizations, but not clear if there are any religious ones !

I believe Hope House and Saint Lucy's (? the shelter north of tunnel entrance) are run by or affiliated with the RCC.

Apparently that stuff is unenforceable, look up the story of the Synagogue on Grove that is now a mosque. They tried to put in the deed that it could never be a house of worship other than Orthodox Jewish, the new buyers did what they wanted.

If a church turns a property into rentals, does it still pay no tax?

Also the Synagogue that was turned into condos on 5th street between Erie & Manila. I've always been curious about that one, old wooden Synagogue with beautiful windows.

More interesting than being wooden is that it is in the shape of a cross. I think it was originally the home of the congregation that built the church at Jersey and 4th (North Baptist???).

Can't help with location, but Palace Drugs on Newark (maybe a Bay St. address) delivers. They also fill prescriptions while you wait.

Very cool - thank you for posting. It's a vision, so you get to present what you consider the ideal (and maybe get close to it in execution).

Maybe we need Bernadette Soubirous heading up the JCRA.

Nope, but I do remember when each car was dedicated to a town in NJ with a short description.

They took it in their stride. No a/c and men wore suits and ties to work. I can remember when the subway had cane seating and (I think) overhead fans, and I thought that I was a lucky kid to have a summer job in Manhattan. However, men carried briefcases or lunch boxes and women purses so an individual might have taken up less space than one does today. Oh, and no strollers!

If the comment in the NY Times concerns PATH services, why is the service horrible? The trains are packed when it arrives in Journal Square from Harrison, from Journal to Grove, you cannot get on. It is packed due to more people who live in Harrison and especially JC. And what are we doing to make the service worse? We are bringing in more development with more people to pack the trains. Fulop is contributing to the overcrowding which makes the service bad. He also shares the blame.

Yes the trains are sometimes crowded, although one would think that all us hoity toity people posting on JCList could arrange our schedules around that. The service is shitty because it breaks down all the time - if I don't get at least 3 delay messages a day, I assume my phone is not charged.

And now let's discuss your abhorrance of double standards. Are you no longer a member of a sect that believes that salvation can only be achieved thru a certain somebody (don't want to offend any Kiwis) and that everyone else is doomed?

A joint venture between Planned Parenthood and the ASPCA would be useful. I imagine that getting one's self and one's pet neutered at the same time would a memory to cherish or to at least include in a longwinded Christmas card.

What is the status of the apartments? In an earlier post someone wrote that they were coops - is that still the case? If it is, I wonder how much of the vacant land is included as part of a shareholder's purchase.

At the risk of clipping the creativity and free expression of our born again Huxtables and Muschamps, how are these buildings uglier than the Cali Building or Grove Pointe?

The Metropolis Towers have a clear architectural ancestry - from housing built in Germany, Austria and Netherlands between the war to Le Corbusier's Unites onward to buildings like SOM's Manhattan House which I think has been landmarked.

Spruce up the building, build a pedestrian Main Street of shops whose sizes complement the large spaces on Newark and open some space for recreation is my suggestion.

If we are going to create a new legal concept - EED - Eyesore Eminent Domain - let's start small - with those miserable houses across from Key Food.

The building is being expanded to include part of the parking lot entranced on Newark. It will be apartments. The original commercial space is quite small - you can see that they are expanding it to the rear. My guess, and only a guess, is that they won't be able to rent it until they have the rough space enclosed.

Personally, I'd like to see a Citerella-like store in there. Good quality meat, fish, cheese and prepared food.

Happily in DTJC we have several good liquor/wine shops - cool vines, madame claude, village and the one @ Jersey and mercer. most of us, I assume, can afford a few bucks more to support local businesses.

On a recent trip to Shop Rite I saw the fish guy go to the freezer case, take out a bag of shrimp and dump it onto the shrimp behind the glass. Didn't follow up, but I wonder if you pay a premium for the shrimp out of the bag and the personal service. You can't buy 1/2 pound bags or 6 shrimp per diner, for example, from a bag.

As far as the crowds and the hubbub - if you think of these as elements of the diversity many say they love about Jersey City, maybe it would seem more acceptable.

There are four districts in DTJC. Apparently the fourth is so exclusive the JJ chooses to let it remain unlisted - LOL - or maybe incomplete reporting. In any case, given that the proposed district is mostly free standing houses, residents should really think about wanting to be designated. Consider that three sides of a free standing house are visible from the street, windows, siding, cornices, etc. might all be subject to historic guidelines when changes/replacements/ necessary repairs are necessary.
