Can we get this back on the topic of how exactly the public was tricked into building the Golden Door? This is juicy. I've lived here for a while and this is the first time I've gotten wind of it and I'm curious.

The abatement stuff has been discussed and rehashed all over the place.

Who enforces the zero tolerance? Because we have infinite tolerance for just about anything over on Hamilton Park.

I am a big fan of just about every Sierra Nevada product, Victory out of eastern PA is quite nice, hogardeen (spelling?) is great in the summertime, in a pinch a bud or bud light is my swill of choice. In fact I am going to go find a beer from my fridge right now....

The Westin is a great addition the only hotel in JC that is comparable is the Hyatt, and that often times is booked to the gills. It also appears that the Hyatt's rate has gone down a bit, they appear very reasonable.

They had a verizon guy in my building last monday. They started taking information for appointments. This is on 9th between coles and Jersey. It might be building dependent as well because they have been putting a lot of work in over here.

If you have parking in you building you typically cannot get street parking.

The reserved spots are for commuters who work in JC. They have spots like that all over the area on Columbus and around exchange place.

Unfortunately your screwed.

It is in the same building as the PNC at exchange place. At the end of Montgomery. It looks like they are making and entrance that is on the platform of the light rail, but I'm not 100% certain. My admittedly ignorant guess is that it will be open some time this summer circa July, but they have been working on it since before xmas.

Keep it HDMI it is the way to go. All of my components are connected via HDMI and I think that it is a noticable upgrade on the picture. Onkoyo makes a very nice HDMI compatible reciever that I happen to really like.

But can you explain to me where the green men fit into this conspiracy?

Bush has #OOPS#ed up a lot of things, but he is certainly not to blame for Mr. Spitzer preaching ethics and morals and then banging whores. Spitzer was brought down because of an age old saying; "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Hey Avanti,

I've got a place on Hamilton Park with parking, the kitchen is brand new. It is about 950 sq ft. Would you mind ball parking the rent for me? I have my own expectations and would like to see if I'm about right. Thanks!

Re: Visitor Parking Permits/Parking Regulations

I was able to get multiple passess onetime from the women at the parking authority. I swear it was because my license has a JC address on it. The guy in front of me was turned away because he had just moved here and his car and license were from out of state.

As for the booting I think that they have gotten much quicker with the boot in the past year or so. The worst experience was when I went to the parking authority asked for a pass for one day to park in a particular area. I told him exactly where it would be and he said ok gave me the pass. Well you know what happens next, I got the boot that day. When I called and asked they said I had to come to the station to parking authority and could pay with cash or credit card. I asked if I could just give them my cc no and they could send someone. They said no. So I trekked all the way up to the PA (which is a bitch to get to) paid. As I'm waiting I hear the women reciting a credit card number over the phone. I asked why the heck couldn't I do that. The officer said the could only do it for emergency purposes? I asked "How do you know I don't have an "emergency"" and why wouldn't you just tell me that over the phone? He says you didn't say you have an emergency. Anyways I took the officer and civillians name and badge number and sent a nasty letter to city hall and the PA. I never heard a thing, but I don't park on the street anymore.

I think someone should assemble a book or something on stupid shit the PA has done is doing. It might be quite comical.

Just a helpful reminder but if you find your car not the police, be sure to follow up with the cops and make sure your car is no longer listed as stolen. A friend of mine was approached by state police with guns drawn when his car was not properly removed from stolen car list.

Re: Who here really, really hates Comcast?

Comcast can be extremely annoying. Their 9-3 scheduling is an absolute nightmare. Additioanally they aren't to understanding, I live 10 min from work and have told them just call me when your on your way and I'll meet you there well they never seem to get that right. However people that think that Verizon will solve all the problems are nuts. They can't even tell you if your able to get DSL, if you can it can take weeks to turn it on.

As for blocking file sharing, it is their perogative as it is their network. And while a true network neutral establishment would be awesome, eventually someone will sue them and try to win money.

Lastly to the person using IM to transfer songs, it very well could be the program slowing it down or the setup of the IM network. I use bit torrent all the time on comcast and get very quick downloads.

I'm not really sure on the specifics of the AC units. To be honest I'm pretty sure any type of enforcement is very lax.

As far as the heater, it is slightly unusual. It does work and keeps my apt snug in the winter. They are also replaceable for about $2500. However the replacement is just a new in wall heater.

If you have any other questions let me know. I'd be happy to help.

I bought and live there, for the last 4 years. The people are mostly very nice. As far as noise from above and below, it isn't the worst but it you do hear people. The AC's are still on the bookshelfs if you face the park it has to do with the historic thing. The condo board is top notch and really helpful and looking out for the building. You get a parking space which is super cool. Additionally there is storage in the basement that is easily accessible. The super David is very nice and easy to get a hold of. All in all I think that I got very lucky when moved, and would do it all over again in a second.

Poor EMI, I don't want to hear about any poor record companies. It was their unwillingness to adapt in the mid/late 90's that is leading to their demise (And I'm the sucker that still buys 3 albums a week). If the idiots that ran these companies had any foresight rather then just trying to prolong their gravey train they would have promoted services like napster and developed better methods to charging for their service. Instead they fought and saw a new service that steals their product pop up everyday. The only way that the record industry is going to remain is through licensing. It is only a matter of time until we are all able to download from itunes for pennies a song music that has no DRM. I really despise some of the heavey handed tactics that the record industry has used in the past to combat a changing market place, they should have looked to revolutionize rather maintain the status quo.

Lost mail in Jersey City
#60
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Does anyone have anyproblems receiving their mail? My company seems to just not get their mail on a fairly regular basis. I call the post office, and while they are nice and they assure me all the mail is being delivered, I know it isn't. I have customers that have paid every invoice in a timely fashion, and then all of a sudden for 5 days in September my mail was not regular and many checks were lost. It is a hassle to call all these customers, and have them reissue checks, mostly because this is the 2nd or 3rd time for many of them.

So does anyone have any insight into how or why so much of my mail is getting lost? We moved 6 months ago and had some intial getting started problems, but now it is becoming a nusiance, getting mail doesn't seem like it should be rocket science, but I am nearing exasperation on this issue.
