Re: JC monopoly mural on/in newark pedestrian plaza

It's still an ugly painting, but the city's handling of it is even uglier.

Quote:

On almost my final day out there, I ran into a fella named Paul. He asked me if I could put his name on the mural. I jokingly asked his name and said I'd add ?Paul Avenue? right away, and just continued to work. He stopped me again and said, ?No, I meant my company.? This guy wasn't joking! I told Paul that all the squares were already taken, and that City Hall had made the decisions quite some time ago. He then got on his phone for about ten minutes. Fifteen minutes later, Brooke called me. ?How can we incorporate ?Charles & Co.? on the board?? she asked me.

What the hell is ?Charles & Co.?? Well, apparently they're the company that has been building condos, and they help out the city with funding. Sponsored squares. Wow, is this what its come down to? I would have calmly explained what a terrible idea that is, but at this point the butting of heads had peaked and no rational discussion could take place. Paul got his square. Take a chance on Charles & Co. Know you know who's really in charge of your fine city. And my heart broke.

Is the "Brooke" that wanted him to change the painting to appease a developer the same "Brooke" that gave the Bostwick Ave rant? It's surprising that she's still in our city government.

Tear it all down and start over. What a mess! Whoever designed the exits should never work again.

Everybody needs to complain and make a big fuss about this.

Reopen the temporary exit at Vesey! The new exits are a failure!

Re: Security lines at EWR

Check before, but beware that their max time listed is 31 minutes even though the actual time can be 90 mins just for security. Never fly out in the late afternoon if you can avoid it. Early mornings are the best.

http://tsastatus.net/search.php?q=EWR

Put in EWR
http://apps.tsa.dhs.gov/mytsa/wait_times_home.aspx
their wait times seem to max out at 31 minutes even if it is 90

If you are flying united out of terminal C and there are 90 minute lines, go through security at terminal A or B and take the transfer shuttle bus back to C.

Another cheapo tinderbox. Those multi unit wood frame buildings should have been banned a long time ago.

Fulop needs to resign as Mayor of Jersey City if he's going to spend all his time backhandedly campaigning for Governor.

Fulop dropped the ball on this one.

Funny he sends out a message calling for Christie to resign, but not a peep on his boy Chico.

Fulop is full of it.

I'm not saying there's anything you can or should do about it. I'm just saying people have very justified reasons to worry.

This is the opposite of having gays and artists gentrify your neighborhood.

Hasidic Jews around here have a bad reputation as neighbors:

Come in, order, sit, consume and leave. Don't milk that one coffee for 2 hours of table space. It's rude to the coffee shop, even if they don't have the guts to tell you directly.

I walked in there the other day, thinking of getting a bite to eat and a coffee, saw the sea of losers on laptops, and turned around and left. Very unappealing to sit in someone's claimed office space to enjoy a snack and drink.

Get a room!

I'm pretty sure consensus is that they're selling fast food style burgers, very slowly, with meat that's more expensive than it's worth and charging more than everyone else selling this style of burger. If they don't drop their prices a few bucks, they'll be gone by next winter when the Toricos spill over dies off.

It's a 66? of ingredients burger that would normally sell for $1.99 at any other fast food restaurant. It's no Big Mac or Whopper. It's a little bigger than the 72? White Castle and about the same size as the $1 McDonalds hamburger, but with more toppings, "fancy" beef and special sauce, which puts it squarely in the $1.99 retail price range.

They're aspiring to be a Shake Shack in size and quality, but Shake Shack costs $5.66 (tax included) vs $7.38 at this knock-off.

Overpriced. Won't last.

Good aside from Hoboken's trash facility behind your house. That gets ripe in the summer.

There is a long history of buildings falling over, collapsing and killing people. Save yourself a fortune, headaches, and possibly your life and buy something structurally sound.
