As I've said every time this monster rears it's head, just picture the clusterfuck at Jersey & Grand every morning as bumper to bumper cars try to enter Downtown from this bridge. You should really stop saying it every time.

Does the HBLR crossing under the train tracks on Johnston gridlock? Why would Grand St. gridlock?

Which cars coming from the Turnpike that would take the new Jersey Ave bridge are not already on Johnston?

The cars that use Johnston > Pacific still cross at Jersey and Grand. Do those cars cause intersection gridlock? Why would there be instant gridlock if the cars are coming down Jersey instead of down Grand?

Your rational is so misdirected.

at least two of the three navy ships sailed out already. Like a few hours after they came in.

No. Half turned around and are moored in Staten Island.

General rule of thumb is if it's permanent (concrete footings) and four feet or over, you'll need a permit and an inspection.

Of course, if its a direct replacement, you can probably get away with it.

Re: Newport: The Time Is Now

Post should read more like this ...

They say good things come to those that wait! If you've been waiting for a patch of green space in Newport since the site's initial development in the 1980s, it's finally here! (Oh, and by the way, that green space is full of "keep off the grass" areas, so you can look but can't touch).

If you've ever dreamed of city living, but don't actually like city living, Newport is just for you! Revel in our super-spacious avenues and thoroughfares, which are desolate of any human activity because of our lack of first floor retail. Savor the bland chain restaurants that you could just as easily sample on any major highway in New Jersey.

Newport is a short hop from New York City on the PATH. By the time you sign the lease, you'll receive complimentary bathing suits and swim lessons to help alleviate the sardine-like JSQ-33rd PATH train!

-------------

Newport is not all that bad. Not all that great either. Thanks for posting an advertisement, by the way.

Bad communication by the State. The Skyway is open this weekend, though there is nothing about it on their website, only the original announcement that the Skyway would be closed for eight straight weekends.

Before I travel on the Skyway, I look at the webcams on Traffic Tracker to see the conditions. There are two cameras working now, a third one is pointing at the ground.

Traffic Tracker

I had every intention of going down 1&9 Truck last Saturday, but found the Skyway open then, too ... this after the "eight weekends of closures..."

You're not getting it.

You're claiming there's a real estate bubble but you're analyzing real estate that represents something like 0.01% of the market.

Also, Listing Price and Sale Price are two very distinct things. I can put my condo up for $5 million but it would not be indicative of anything other than my own stupidity.

It would have to be a community movement, a la Van Vorst. There's an amazing community garden on the south side that is fenced in and very well kept.

Riverview Fisk would really benefit from a central plaza -- one bigger than what's there even. Think Hamilton Park. This would keep the farmers market vendors off the grass and keep the place lookin' a bit more green.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Many would argue that Sandy relief funds should first go to putting people back in their homes and reconnecting other people via mass transit to their jobs. You should have voiced your concern about the pavilion immediately after the storm! You would have likely been a lone voice -- no one was thinking about that pavilion when thousands were homeless and major modes of transportation like the PATH were crippled.

You should also brush up on how budgets at the city and state level work. The new pavilion and beautification at Riverview Fisk is coming in at a $480,000 price tag. Do you really think money like that is just lying around for immediate action?

The only thing more absurd than the two and a half years to fix the pavilion is your mindset that things like this should be fixed when you snap your fingers.

This was at the bottom of your post. It should have been at the top, before you got so upset over the (supposed) no progress.

Fulop allocated a lot of money in 2015 to fix up neighborhood parks. He released this info roughly two months ago. Riverview Fisk is slated to receive a new pavilion that will also be ADA compliant.

Serious question: are there really still people who would put a sign in the window and not put an ad on Craigslist?

The signs typically come from a realtor, which would then imply a realtor fee.

Renato's, behind Pizza Masters
The restaurant side of Gino's Pizza

For grab and go, Andrea's Salumeria, although they close early.
For another grab and go, with surprising quality, Podewitz's

El Sabroso and Los Tres Chilitos are two places where you can sit and enjoy an excellent meal. Throw Isla Bonita in there, too.

Rumbas Cafe serves up some of the best food, and you can walk out stuffed for $6

El Rinkoncito is a small Peruvian place with an owner who frequents JC Heights message boards.

If it's Olive Garden that you're looking for, than you're completely out of luck.

That's one thing I haven't tried yet. However, I've been very tempted to jump on a jitney marked NEW YORK when I know the next NJ Transit bus is delayed/late/broken down/on fire/mysteriously disappears.

This map: http://www.jerseyjitneys.info/wp-cont ... ads/2014/07/jitneymap.png

edit: on second look, the link above has been updated! It includes more jitney routes than it had initially. Very Cool -- whoever published it is following through.

Are you commuting to and from Hoboken? Or is Hoboken one of the transfer points for your commute?

There are so many Heights options. From the Heights to Hoboken/NYC, I have: biked, walked, taken the PATH to Hoboken and used the Light Rail, taken the PATH to JSQ and walked, taken the 119, the 123.

I really don't understand the purpose of the 87 if you're in the Heights. It's a slower and less reliable than the light rail. There are better options.

Jeez, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Yes, you would be told to leave because when the place is actually "open" it is for a private event. They don't do sit-down restaurant-style dinners. You'd never go back not because you're angry at the business but instead because there is nothing for you to go back for.

And there's a big difference between saying hello to a new business and being a "Central Ave regular" as I put it earlier. Hopefully you're able to decipher that.

We've got a truly legit business run by some very hardworking and dedicated staff who actually WORK and LIVE in the Heights and some of you still find something to complain about.

Last year, they had cooking classes and private seatings. Not sure if that's still happening. Their website would tell.

re: frosted windows. I went for one private event. People off the street kept coming in. It wasn't a big problem for me, because I was only there for a few hours, but when your kitchen is the front of the house, it must get old to stop what you're doing to explain to the Central Ave regulars that they can't come in.

Hopefully you've changed your ways.

NJ residents do NOT pay NYC Local taxes. That's for residents of NYC only. If you do pay NYC Local as an NJ resident, you should get every last penny of that back.

Long story short: You will only get a NJ W-2 if your employer takes out NJ state taxes. If they don't, you'll receive just a Fed and NY State tax form. You'll still have to pay taxes to both states, but you'll get a credit for most of what you owe on the NJ side.
