TTP, you are correct, and what is it with these posters ? They must lose sleep wondering what 2 Boots is up to. These people have real problems other worrying about 2 Boots.

People complain about Two Boots because he lobbied the city to get the food trucks removed from Grove St Plaza so he could help his bottom line. At the expense of the public, who loved the food trucks.

And a bunch of other local businesses but because Two Boots was the only business owner to actually try to explain the reasoning to the deliberately obtuse posters on JCList they just harp on his business like it was just him. lol I'm sure their "boycott" of all those businesses really panned out and made a huge difference- that's why they keep up the bitching on here. It's their only outlet because in reality no one else gives a shit.

That is not entirely accurate. Aaron (owner of 2 Boots) was the ringleader with Drunk Jeff (owner of the Bistro) as his sidekick. Without Aaron this would NOT have happened and the residents of Jersey City would still have regular access to food trucks, as it is in every other modern city of comparable size.

In addition, I am friends with several business owners/GMs who signed that list and they all have stated that they now believe Aaron handled it incorrectly, aside from his rather poor reputation as a human being.

Regardless of how successful any boycott may be, none of the businesses on that list get any of my money. While I'm sure many of them will continue to do just fine, wait until the next recession hits.

yeah I'm sure the "boycott" will really be a huge factor in wether or not a business will make it through the next recession that you have no ETA for. Good plan.

Unsurprisingly, you do not understand the point of boycotts.

You know the next recession could mean your job as well.

Yeah this. There are some intersections in which the lights and walk signals are coordinated differently. Its green for cars, but don't walk for pedestrians, but when its walk for pedestrians its full red for all vehicles. Well someone crossed against it and hit my car and I did follow them for about half a block.

I am all for pedestrian rights, but at least follow the current laws in place.

I'm not talking about intersections with a stop or with nothing. ie: turning right from Jersey onto Third or blowing across Jersey on any number of streets without regard for the crosswalks.

As "ass handed to you". Really? I dare you.

Ah, you were the one who lost me points walking home today! Crossing Ferry Street at Central, nearly clipped my leg and when I shouted "hey" you said (not looking up from your cell phone as you texted) said "move".

You are right, but it is mostly the other way around. People pay absolutely no mind when entering the cross walk, crossing in the middle of the street. Also, don't they think that the driver maybe doing the same thing you are, TEXTING, making it even more imperative that you look 1st.

I have nothing against any immigrant, but JC is asked to fill the federal program to house immigrants. I am sure when the Syrian immigrants come, they will be in affordable housing. The basis for Fulop's tax abatement program is linked to affordable housing. JC cannot fix the world's problem when we need our sewerage fixed and addressed the flooding problems. Affordable housing is not affordable taxes.

Yvonne how can anyone on this site dispute your findings. The potholes are in dire need of repair and paving. I would like to hear the reasons to make your claims seem unjustified. Uh oh... I think some one is trolling to be offended on JCList. If you know Terry, he has a special blend that he calls "Chinese Fire Water" behind the bar. The quotes were aimed at those of us who have ever tasted it... and "survived" Lighten up.

Terry's not Chinese, so it's still offensive.

You're offended because a Malaysian bar owner ocassionally challenges his patrons to drink a shot of something he himself calls Chinese Fire Water? You're a precious little petal, aren't you?

How about Tommy, Big Guy and I all calling you out for being a faux outrage troll douche? How offensive is that exactly?

You should talk to someone about your anger issues. Seriously.

You?re right ? I should speak with a psychiatric professional to work through these aggressive tendencies. I need help and it?s time I admit that to myself. Thanks for making me realize I have problem JCman24.

Perhaps once I?m better adjusted and restored to a sounder mental footing, I?ll be able to stalk threads on online forums purposefully looking to read something not even mildly offensive that will stir a profound sense of indignation within me and spur me to chime into the debate ? not to add anything of substance to the discussion, of course ? but just to let the others know I outraged I am by something they?ve said.

So thanks again for your concern JCman24. You?re the paragon of mental wellness to which we should all aspire.

Thankfully most of our elected officials and the vast majority of new residents are smarter than fat slobs like Yvonne. They do desire all the things she's against, like reduced dependence on cars, vibrant street life and walkable communities with fun things to do. Demographics and market forces are more powerful than she is, as are the realities of building a sustainable and economically competitive city in the 21st century.

She's already lost her war, she's just too dumb and too self-righteous to realize it.

I hope Candice sees this and realizes most of us are on her side.

Why would you speak to Yvonne in that way ? If you have something to say go to a meeting and kiss Ms. Candice's ass if you wish. Why don't you put up your photo so we can judge you on your looks, better yet, a picture of your Mother so we can describe her in the same manner in which you did. Would that offend you ? Would you like that ?

What do you know ? The stores owners still don't care for it .
Hanging out in front, sitting on chairs, and kids riding on their skooters eating ice cream from Torico's not helping the stores at all. At night it is a different story for the restaurants that have some where to throw out the drunks, and so they sit and wait to throw up on the tables.

I get what you are saying, but those of us commenting on the reasons are not doing so in a vacuum. The owners have gone on record (via an Eater article, posted in this thread, or the other one) that they couldn't make a go of it, and that they can trace their failure to the very first day after getting their license and suspending BYOB. I believe the words they used were "the day we stopped being a BYOB was the beginning of the end". Clearly, they made a business decision that backfired and, inexplicably, they didn't seek a way to regain their previous mojo.

In this day and age BYOB doesn't pay the bills. The places that don't have a Liquor license, don't have the money, or figures to hire another person to work the bar.

There are plenty of byob restaurants still in business after many years in JC and Hoboken... sad truth is they lost their heart and desire to keep the business going. Nothing wrong with that, but blaming customer tastes and the cost of labor when you have a culinary school in J Sq seem slightly self serving, if you excuse the pun.

Kevin had been planning to leave J.C for the last two years and move to Seattle. He was ready to go. Also, I am sick of these people with there BYOB . You can't survive on BYOB. You don't have a license your F'd for the most part.

For me, one of the biggest problems in JC is that it is definitely lacking in stores and amenities. I had to go to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in Edgewater Saturday. While driving there, I am always amazed that we are so close in proximity to Hoboken where there are SO many places to shop, dine, drink and play. All we do in Jersey City is to continue to build high-rise apartments without providing new stores to accommodate all the new residents. It's damn annoying that I have to go elsewhere to shop because Shop-rite is not big enough for all of Jersey City. The city should be offering tax incentives to attract businesses which would enhance this city. I think every new building that gets approved should provide retail space on the first floor.
