Honest curiosity here...

Why as humans have we appointed ourselves in charge of cat neutering as though it were a thing that needed to be done?
Who's minding the rabbit, raccoon, and squirrel populations? You're seriously falling down on the job.

If they keep making what they're making at the quality that they're currently making it, my contributions alone will keep them there for generations.

I hope they get done whatever needs to get done. Fulop and Co. would be fools to allow a trifling zoning issue to shut this place down.

That is actually great news.

It seems like for the last ten years every time I take WTC the entry/exiting is worse than it was last time. Hopefully some time this century there's an underground transfer to the ACE again.

Damn, I've been waiting patiently for little back garden to open.

I was really hoping to sit out there and quietly drink my coffee from 8am to 4pm.

Shame that disturbs somebody's vampire routine or something? Who complains about a patio area that isn't even open yet?

There must be a missing detail here.

I would like to co-sign these previously mentioned points:

-The faux brick is pathetic
-The people responsible for doing the patch work on Newark Ave in JSQ should be ashamed of themselves and have brought dishonor upon their houses for generations to come. I would also like to add, "How do you sleep at night?"
-The PSEG work is being incredibly poorly executed in terms of what streets they're doing and when and has basically rendered entire swathes of the city unnecessarily unparkable.

I would like to add the following: Whoever is driving the streetsweeper that follows the PSEG trenching operation that doesn't bother to spray water, but opts instead to create a gigantic dust storm that results in everything on the block being covered in a layer of silt and traffic tickets... that guy can fuck right off.

Do you even understand income tax?

Also, collecting a New Jersey pension and retiring in a state with no income tax just makes good fiscal sense.

I don't understand your beef with sound personal finance.

No, he did not LITERALLY shit on me, or you, or anyone else here.

His dog took a shit on grass in a park. He didn't clean it up. I guess that's a crime? It's more just kind of a dick move that everybody has executed at one point in their life or another. Maybe he ran out of bags. That shit happens. Should he have put his wallet there to mark the shit until he returned?

Chill out, man. You're gonna give yourself a coronary.

Hey don't take this the wrong way, Hamvet, but you're a fucking creep and I hate that you live near me.

Holy shit dude, you're posting somebody's picture online, calling him a tax evader, based on him not picking up some dog shit?

Step away from the internet. You need some time to reevaluate what you're doing with your life.

Nope. Makes perfect sense to me.

I don't mind illegal fireworks as they generally only affect those using them. You rarely hear of houses burning down or innocent bystanders hurt.

I'd give it to them.

I'm also going to say there's more to this story if 3 men were carrying $4,500 dollars.

Not as of 11am today.

I'll report back at noon.

I liked both the previous tenants of that spot. Good guys, good sandwiches. Just a little too slow and the coffee was never good enough. Also, they opened too late to be my morning spot, despite living a couple doors down.

Hopefully the burger joint is solid. I'll probably end up eating there a couple times a week just out of proximity.

Re: Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza -- Reopening?

Progress happens slowly.

Nobody is going to straight up ban cars in any given area. That's silly.

You can take steps towards reducing their impact on your area though and it would be a great thing for America to get into.
Europe does a lot of things right that we really suck at. Public meeting places is one of those things. Ditching cars in certain blocks in Downtown would be great.
Before it happens, relax, you can still get to any business on the block by vehicle. The roads don't get ripped up, you just don't use them unless you have to. Word.

I'm gonna go the other way with the double parking thing and suggest that most people need to learn how wide their vehicle is.

I see people leaning on their horn because they "can't get by" a space that I could drive a dump truck through.

So, here's a new side-effect of "restaurant row" we get to enjoy all summer:

When the places close down at 2/3am, their customers stroll in packs through downtown towards their cars, talking loudly, shouting to each-other across the street, completely oblivious to the fact that they're in a residential neighborhood.

I've noticed it increasing as the weather warms up.

At 3:30 this morning, I had to go down and tell a bunch of grown men and women - sitting on my stoop - that they were having their loud conversation right under several open bedroom windows. They seemed surprised and were apologetic, and quickly took it elsewhere. So no drama, but....seriously?

I see no simple solution to this.

I don't know what street you're on, but did you catch the whistling contest?

I kid you not, there was a group of just under a dozen having a whistling contest. One girl was acting as the judge.

"John, now you whistle!"
"Jimmy, now you whistle!"
"Now everybody whistle at once!"

It was so fucking loud and obnoxious that I couldn't even be mad. They didn't even stop. They just kept yelling and whistling all the way up the street until they were out of earshot from me.

I was extremely impressed.

God's honest truth, I only wrote ownership because I couldn't think of how to properly word "lease holder" with a "ship" at the end.

Leaseholdership?
Lesseeship?
Leasership?
Tenantship?

Forgive me my trespasses...

These "put it to a community vote!" comments are cool and all, but think about how you'll feel when somebody wants to put the ownership of your property to a vote.
I'm sorry you don't like the way the people holding the lease to the theatre are running it. Perhaps you should either go back in time to when nobody wanted it and sign a lease of your own for the property, or put on your big boy pants and go find another available venue to have your Vampire Weekend shows in.
It's not like there's a shortage of giant vacant buildings in the area.

Incredibly pleased the judge sided with FOL. Yes, it really sucks that more isn't done with the space, but it's a ruling in favor of the greater good of the rule of law.

Imagine if you could just vote people out of a neighborhood because you didn't like them. I'd probably go first!

I went to Powerhouse once on a Saturday night and it was the strangest crowd.

It felt like the leftovers who didn't have a bar they felt comfortable in so they all ended up there. Also, it definitely had a vibe of "I got a hotel in town and asked the front desk where a good bar was, then I ended up here."
Very, very strange crowd, $6 Yuengling, and the most comically slanted pool table I've ever played.

Re: Raval tapas place

I went with a group of four last night and it was very good.

All the plates we got were delicious.

Atmosphere is nice, servers and staff were all very friendly. The owners came over to ask us how things were and made food and drink recommendations for us.
Their drink menu is as good as the food menu.

As was mentioned above, the bill can get out of hand in a hurry if you're going full bore on drinks and plates, but it's a perfect date spot for food and I'm sure I'll be back there for drinks soon.

So yeah whatever.

God, let it be so.

Bistro is such a waste of the best location. I hate that it's there because I imagine New Yorkers coming in to check out what's supposed to be the cool new spot, then as soon as they get off the PATH they see McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Subway, a fucking FroYo place, and Bistro.
