Any tax appeal will likely be dismissed without much fuss: what would be the argument to bring an appeal? That the person doesn't want to pay so much? Once the revaluation is completed and put in place, that is the new baseline. It is utterly impossible to try and argue against your new tax levy when it is based on a professional valuation of property that was carried out citywide.

There will be tons of appeals if property values fall 10%

They already stole the Morris Canal - leave some waterfront for the people!

What do you call the whole Hudson River waterfront and walkway?

Agreed Brewster, there is a huge need for sports fields in Jersey City, Liberty State Park could fit a dozen, and still have plenty of quiet nature space left.

Another thing they should put in Liberty State Park is the mother of all dog runs, some massive 20 acre thing, I don't have a dog, just want dog-people to have somewhere to go.

Robin.

Try making your way over to Lincoln Park they have plenty of ball fields. Plus there are other gated ball fields that we paid for with tax dollars. Try lobbying to get on one of those. There are plenty of cities that have thriving waterfronts with many restaurants and amenities. The park could use this land to create an awesome place to visit and create much needed revenue. A marina, restaurant, hotel, amphitheater would provide that

1- the sky has not fallen in the legal states, there's no epidemic of stoned driving

2- weed has been easy to get in many places for ages, and there's been no crisis of stoned driving. When was the last time you heard of a family killed by a stoned driver?

3- I believe they're working on a field test, but cops dealt with drunk driving long before the breathalyzer.

4- unlike when people drive drunk, stoned drivers are usually slow and cautious rather than aggressive. Still not a good idea though.

Brewster,
1. The sky does not have to fall for 1 person to be killed by a stoned driver.
2. You don't hear of drivers being stoned because there is no way to tell.
3. It is no safer then drunk driving. Once they can test for it and turn it
Into the money maker drunk driving is ill be all for it.

Greetings from lovely Oregon, where you can walk into a tasteful marijuana Boutique with jars of bud lining the walls and glass counters filled with next level stuff, and have a "customer care specialist" spend time telling you all about the nuances of the various flower and concentrate products. The names of these are a riot. The sky has not fallen here, nor is it Reefer Madness incarnate. JC could really do to take the edge off and be a little more like Oregon. Chilltown indeed.

Brewster,
Don't you currently avoid the ramp fee and walk you kayak illegally into the water?

That is the case for me. I have checked and so far my bank is saying they will not adjust my escrow for the prepayment. Additionally I will have to wait until my annual escrow analysis to be rebated.

So tell us, how often are you at the south end? Sounds like never. Land in the middle is not a replacement for the waterfront. When I launch my kayak there I'm always astonished at the number of people who drive there and just sit in their cars taking in the view. Not my style, but it's PUBLIC ACCESS to a PUBLIC ASSET.

This has a lot in common with Trump removing protections for western lands. Taking public assets and giving them away to private interests.

How often am I there? Quite a bit and I'm sure more then you! They could easily move some picnic areas further east as well as keep the public boat launch. For the record I would be against the removal of the boat launch and I doubt it would occur. I wonder Brewster when you launch your kayak do you pay the ramp fee? My original point was that done right this could be an asset to the park.

That's a good point I did not catch that it was the median rent. But thinking it though there are about 60k downtown residents in a city of 260k. So there are many more apartments in lower cost JC neighborhoods. I still can't see how that would make Jersey City more expensive then Hoboken.

As far as opting JC over Hoboken, less nightlife can't be the only reason people are flocking here

This must have been done by zip code. There is no way the average rent considering all neighborhoods of Jersey City would be higher then Hoboken.

This also brings up a great question. I moved to Jersey City instead of Hoboken years ago for greater affordability more open space and better parking. Now that this is not the case why are people deciding to move here today?

The former "shitbag" would have been elected President in 2016 in a land slide. So don't act as if liberals have a problem with his ethics. He too in his second term just as Obama had both a republican house and senate. Bill chose to work with them to get things accomplished and it is why he is very popular today.
