Anyone using the SJW pejorative tends to be a trog. Why don't you go harass women in gaming or something.

Wow... very cutting comment, Trog... did you think that up yourself? So which of the Fascist Frat boys are you in the SP video? It's funny none of SWJs commented on this brilliant satire. Its not to hard to understand that the title of Campus Asshole has shifted from the Jock/Musclehead Frats to the self entitled SJWs. It is not surprising that your narrow mind found only my comment to be pejorative.

Someone is butthurt that the world is leaving them behind.

Good luck pretending it's a safety issue when the only people assaulting others since this happened have been other moralizing a**holes.

And it's a good thing. The more ignorance and bigotry is highlighted, argued against and ridiculed, the more awareness there is of the issue and the faster change occurs.

An occasional outspoken bigot like Yvonne is a good thing in that it provides an opposing voice.

Bull. I was a latchekey kid in JC in the late 70s and early 80s. What you talk about is moral hyperventilating, leavened with a lot of paranoia and a nice dash of ant-trans bigotry.

Incorrect. Many appreciated downtown properties are assessed at the 1980s equivalent. That's the issue. New properties are also valued at a fraction of their current value.

Our go to birthday cake in my family has always been the rum cake from Monteleone, on Newark Avenue, by Journal Square. They do other cake flavors as well, and will take custom orders in advance.

Why not just pay a plumber or handyman to replace the flaps on all the toilets in the building. It'll be cheaper than the next bill and will not create hostilities since it won't point fingers.

I don't understand the need for microphones and going straight to installing meters for what is a simple problem.

Do you have a Facebook Group or email list used to communicate to owners?

Yes, Rumi is very good. I usually get a kabob dinner and split some spreads with whomever I dine there.

Re: Hamilton PORK

For a good BBQ experience, try Hill Country. Meat, a few traditional sides and desserts, and a simple bar list.

The meat is tender, has a good smoke ring, and a lot of flavor. That's the basis of the place, and the first priority.

Looking at the photos, I don't know if I would call it real BBQ since the meat barely looks like any smoke touched it, and some of the Yelp photos of brisket make it look terribly dry. The portions also look tiny for a BBQ joint. BBQ meat cuts are much cheaper than steak and good roast cuts, so having a tiny portion of pork ribs or pulled pork is inexcusable. Even brisket is cheap wholesale (and they don't offer the point, just the flat).

The other dishes don't look out of place, so much as imply a Mexican style BBQ experience that depends on Texas brisket and Southern pork and ribs. The two seem to be at odds.

Mine is pretty similar, but I start with crushed tomatoes and use molasses as the major sweetener.

1 28 oz can cushed tomatoes
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup dark molasses
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 medium red onion, minced
3 garlic cloves, put through a press
1 thin slice ginger, smashed a bit
1 tbsp chili ancho powder
1 tsp kosher salt
10 grinds of pepper

Simmer for about 40 minutes, then add:

Splash of hot sauce of choice
1/4 tsp cumin
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder

Simmer for 5 more min, and add a tbsp of butter and stir in to make it velvety. Fish out the ginger slice and use a stick blender if you want it perfectly smooth.

Re: TALDE JERSEY CITY

I knew the old owners very well, and am acquainted with the new one. Both good people.

But what makes it not a diner? It has all the hallmark dishes. The presentation is a bit better, and the place is brighter and cleaner.

I get my taylor ham, egg and cheese on there frequently, and their corned beef hash is money.

Re: TALDE JERSEY CITY

Talde wasn't upscale in any real way though. It was gimmicky and the food was passable at best. The bar was OK. But as a restaurant it was at best, a flash in the pan.

Thirty Acres, for much of its life, was a much better restaurant. And if I want a small plate experience, which is all Talde was really good for, I'd rather be at 3rd and Vine, or Razza.

Re: TALDE JERSEY CITY

It can support more expensive places, but only a few of them, and the menu, execution and service need to support it. Talde's food was never at that level. Why got there when Satis is better, and there are better bars in town now.

Some building features can cause a mechanical howling sound under the right wind and temperature conditions. Up by Journal Square, we get it when there are heavy snowstorms with high winds. The drifts funnel the winds in a way that it causes a sustained metallic hum/howl in the early mornings.

Razza has been open for only about 2 years, right? Wow, you move fast if she is your wife already and that was your first date!

We've only been married a few months now. We had dated a few years ago after meeting at a wedding, but parted ways. We reconnected almost two years ago and this time it went very well. When talking before the date, she said she liked good pizza and ice cream, so I took her to Razza and then for a stroll to Torico.

She never had a chance.

I would suggest asking for a table in the second level. It is a half floor that overlooks the front area of the ground floor. It is a bit quieter up there, and more intimate because you have less foot traffic from other patrons.

Agreed. I always ask for an upstairs table. It's quieter, with less foot traffic, and is a cozier.

Satis is fine for conversation, and the food is on par with Porto Leggero, if not a bit better if you like some of their dishes, like the pork shank or whole bronzino. The tables are a bit cozier though, and it's a bit more dimly lit, which helps with the mood.

Texas should be mesquite and oak. And if there are no beef ribs or brisket, it isn't Texas.

The photos in the article did not look appetizing at all. They had the look of boiled and oven roasted ribs, not BBQ. Where's the rub and the bark?

This is what ribs should look like, and even this is a little light. They need a real pitmaster.

Re: Two Boots Pizza

There's a great $1 slice shop up on Summit, just South off JSQ. It's not gourmet at all, but I enjoy it, and they always have fresh pies coming out of the oven. When it's hot, it is very tasty, with a good crisp and chewy crust, and it's not overly salty or greasy at all.

As a bonus to me, the two Mexican guys who operate it are 80s metal fans, so I get to listen to Motorhead or ACDC while I wait.

And that software is constantly hacked to remove the restrictions.

And a 3lb object falling from a few hundred feet up onto a city street can kill someone. The guy got lucky it got stuck on a ledge during the fall. If it hit the facade lower down, it could easily have severely injured someone.

There have been several drone related injuries..

The building is smaller than what Tan is allowed to build, and is set back from Grand, to the side of the field. It fits in with the sweep of the B&G Club and the JCMC. Tan's building is right across from the brownstones. This building will not be.

As for the property tax issue, I'm ambivalent. The school is a bona fide educational institution, and the buildings cited are part of operations, and not collected investment properties as happens with many colleges.
