I realized Orale is not open on Mondays.

I think the most kid-friendly places are Razza and Skinner's. Honestly, Orale is great as well. Really we've had no issue with any of the restaurants, but we also go early and are prepared to walk our daughter around until food arrives. We make sure she's good and hungry too.

This has been on a few other threads here... the White Eagle Hall building on Newark near 4th St is being converted into a performance and restaurant space. MC is opening a 2nd restaurant there.

"Suck it" was probably too harsh. But I stand by my rice balls comment.

Follow them on Facebook if you want to see the topics that were presented. I'm not going to list them here.

I'm pretty sure being willing to try rice balls at the Italian festival is one quality control criteria they have. So I guess you're out again.

Happy to.

I heard of the event at a downtown gallery opening. I saw a flyer and decided to audition at the downtown one. I listened to the other auditioners' proposed topics and was blown away by so many interesting perspectives and solid presenters. I've heard the same about the other 2 locations as well.

My understanding is that while TedX JC may be associated by "name only," as you write, that actually means a lot... in other words, TedX is extremely particular about what is allowed to be called a TedX event, and the organizers are jumping through hoops to be able to bring this event to JC.

Eventually all of the TedX JC presentations will be housed on the primary TedX web site and it could be a promotional opportunity for JC.

Oh, and suck it.

It's actually 100% affiliated with the "well-known" TedX...

And it's a group of diverse, open-minded people, including hipsters, who want to share ideas, knowledge, etc. So you probably wouldn't fit in.

I'll have to check this out with my daughter.

I hate to admit it but I'd rather be eating fish than watching them... I find it funny that Lee's was replaced by an aquarium. If they can't find enough buyers of fish as pets, can they change their business model and sell them to eat ;)

Out of curiosity, I'd be interested in knowing more about this. So, does an MUA Commissioner get benefits from MUA for serving in this role, and what Fulop is doing is removing the CITY's benefits? I'm just wondering why anyone would serve in this role if they aren't paid and have no benefits.

Here's a synopsis:

"Erie Street Market will be on the ground floor....vendors will offer a wide variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, veg..."

"Going to be integrated into the social fabric of JC."

"People are in for a real treat."

There will also be "artisan soups, sandwiches, etc. and prepared meals, "very fresh...farm-to-table stuff."

Well, obviously the size won't be the same, but from what I read in the JCI Magazine, that's exactly the thing I'm picturing from what they said.

It's going to be a mix of produce, meats, cheeses, breads, etc. as well as more prepared foods...farm-to-table, local ingredients, think Eataly. I'm ecstatic! I hope there's fish.

Re: Aggressive homeless man in downtown Jersey City

I had no idea we had so many citizens of JC who are always 100% focused, give money and/or volunteer with local homeless or mental illness causes, and who if they were approached by an unstable man, would offer him food amidst him not allowing you to pass and spitting on you. With such obvious strength and commitment, why is this even a problem anymore in JC?

In all seriousness, I saw these kids the other day in HP. The supervisor was staying on top of them, directing them and giving them shit.... but doing it as a good mentor would.... and while they didn't look thrilled to be there, they looked like teens doing a summer job... They were working hard and listening to the sup. I thought it was great...

Re: Marco & Pepe

I generally like M&P, though with the recent additions to the area, I find myself less and less interested in it.

I went today for lunch. It took 20 min to get my salad and grilled corn. There were about 4 tables outside and 6 tables inside. I never was asked how the meal was (it was OK, but nothing stellar for the price), and I had to take my credit card out to get their attention and the bill.

A woman and man next to me, separate tables, gave their meals back to be cooked more. And the guy had a dirty glass that he gave back to them.

Did I just go on an off-day or is service and quality always that poor?

Re: An open letter to the Dog Owners of DTJC (brace yourselves)

I think some of these owners have guilt... They live in the city with a dog who really needs more space. I see some of these dogs, and I feel like unless you have a yard, they can't be happy. Perhaps these inconsiderate owners need to do us and their pets a favor and move to the 'burbs.

Re: Wedding in Jersey City

How many people?

Barrow Mansion is cool, but you have to accommodate their event schedule and it's for around 100 ppl, I think.

We did our ceremony and reception at the Loew's. It was amazeballs, but you'd have to likely pay full price for the rental even if it's just the ceremony, which may not make sense unless you're rolling in money.

Jersey City Museum?

Liberty Science Center has some cool spaces but also $$.

I always wanted to get married at the old train station/CRRNJ/Statue of Liberty ticket office, but they didn't offer that option as of 2009 when I got married.

OH yeah, JustJames, you were the one who was picking on the artists and sellers at Groove on Grove, complaining about almost missing appointments because of the traffic? And the owner of the Doucheeasy Lounge is your close family friend? Makes complete sense.

As others have said, unless it's similar to a Death & Company or real cocktail bar, I have minimal interest in trying. And now to hear of the things this owner is doing to people on the Plaza, I won't step foot inside. I'd rather spend my money at the many other new additions to the City who have actually brought something of value to the community.

To whomever took my 20-month-old's doll stroller, could you kindly put it back inside our front stoop area, and I'll have renewed faith in humanity. Thx.

My daughter and I were hanging with our friends and their kids across the street for 20 min tonight. I said, "we better go make sure your stroller is still there." Sure enough, someone swiped it from in front of our steps.

Re: Do You Flood? Downtown Residents Please Take This Survey

It's for Andrea. From the original post:

"From Candice:

1) High Level results of Andrea:

Per the National Weather Service (JFK & Newark), it seems we had just under 4 inches of rain in 24 hours.
The peak was 0.5" in a hour during high tide
See the attached image so you can see a graph of the distribution of rain.

2) Your summary of what happened:

I need your help! I would like to track performance of our sewers in the next several months, so I have created a survey that I really would appreciate if if you could complete it."

Do You Flood? Downtown Residents Please Take This Survey
Home away from home
Home away from home

Althea posted a separate thread about this but I fear it may get lost (the subject line is a little wordy and focused on Candace).

Candace Osbourne, Ward E's councilwoman-elect, is starting to collect data on the flooding problem.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NFR3GW2

Although they probably need to ask additional questions, it's a step in the right direction.

If you flood, as I do, please take these surveys so we can get real resident data and start solving this problem.

Original post:

Webmaster: please leave this up, along with Althea's, to create more survey awareness.
