This just happened to me today. I am so annoyed. I don't think that anything can do legally. However, I have decided to boycott both this bj's and shoprite. I have been spending between $200 and $300 every other weekend at bj's and shoprite. I will no longer shop at these stores. Newport Mall is a complete shopping travesty. I have noticed the quality of the small stores has declined anyway. I can shop with much more satisfaction at Short Hills. Thank you very much.

where were you shopping though? if you were at bj's or the shoprite at the time you were towed take it up with their management and take it up the corporate ladder if necessary to get reimbursed.

if you were in the mall then tough shite!

Wrong. This used to be a neighborhood family place - been for the 20+ year which just happens to have a bar, and most of the kids that go are well behaved.

This is a neighborhood of families mostly with young children. If you want that kind of bar, there's lots in Hoboken.

The last thing people without children want is to come to a bar/restaurant and be surrounded by kids (especially when crying loudly)...kids do not belong at AleHouse, WhiteStar,Simple,etc....go to Chile's if you have children and for goodness sake sit downstairs away from the bar area.

I couldn't disagree with you more Alex, I guess your kids must be much better behaved than everyone elses.

note to self, like gps unit and satelite radio, do not leave tag hanging in car in site when not being used.

I would just like to give you an update on where things stand with this issue. I have been working with John Yurchak (Director of DPW), Captain McDonough (East District Police), and the Parking Authority. What we have come up with is this:

1. A stop sign will be placed on Erie at 3rd Street.
2. A stop sign will be placed on Erie at 7th Street.
3. The Parking Authority will be stepping up enforcement on parking at the curbs.
4. Crosswalks will be repainted.

Additionally, the blinking light on Erie at 10th Street might be switched to a standard traffic light in the near future.

The East District will also continue to keep an eye on speeding in the area.

This is a good start. The area will be monitored to see if this is effective or more is needed. This is very important as it relates to the changing needs of the area and its residents.

Sincerely,

Steven Fulop
Councilman Ward ?E?

That's great, thanks Steve, now if we can just put a stop sign on Monmouth at Pavonia; the current sign instructing drivers to stop for pedestrians is ignored by most drivers.

So many people using the argument about cars cutting through various downtown streets to get to the Holland Tunnel. These are public streets. Everyone has the right to use them no matter where they are going. I cut through all kinds of streets in the Heights to get from 1/9 back to downtown. I just don't see how you can single out people driving to the tunnel as poor drivers that are contributing to any potential traffic issues that may exist.

Steve please ignore DPW, I really believe their reasons are a load of kakka. 1, if their was a liability issue then there would have been a class action law suit YEARS ago against some municipality that installed them. 2, there are thousands of cities across the north east that have speed bumps but no plow issues and 3, how much would time would really be lost by an ambulance that slowed down slightly for a bump? I mean really!

oh and by the way, I want to see a stop sign on Monmouth and Pavonia to stop the traffic on Monmouth going towards Hoboken. I had to wait for almost a dozen cars before I was able to cross the other day while walking down Pavonia towards Brunswick. Not one f'in driver would let me cross despite the sign instructing them to yield for pedestrians.

I'm sure some people just figure it's a lost cause, thinking it's long gone in a chop-shop somewhere.

How long do they hold onto the car for? What happens to it after that time period? Anybody know?

I've given them a chance on a number of occasions recently between super bowl, brunch, dinner and happy hour and the food is pretty good and Jim the owner seems like a nice guy but I don't like it when the check the bar gives me breaks out the food protion but bulks the entire drink tab together, I never know how many or how much they're actually charging. at both the white star and lucky 7's the tab even tells you how many buy backs they hooked you up with.
