Re: Rainbow to be replaced by Hoboken restaurant group responsible for 1 Republik

So your complaint has changed from there being no places to watch American Football, to there being no places meeting your precise requirements at which to watch.

In addition to all the places previously listed, there is:
White Star (2 of them)
Hamilton Inn
Ninth and Coles
Keyhole
Healy's
Greene Hook
Light Horse
Markers
Chile's
Park and Ninth
Lisbon Two

As someone mentioned upthread, how many places can you name where you *can't* watch Giants games?

An amusing thing about Monroe is that ever since he joined the board a couple of years ago, he has used all these odd nicknames for politicians and celebrities, wizzy, wally, whiney, moany. But so far as I can tell, nobody has the slightest idea who he is talking about.

I think you should skip the city and go straight to the federal bureau of roaches.

It doesn't take 5 minutes, you can cut through any chain or lock with a mains powered angle grinder in 30 seconds maximum.

Maybe the portable grinders don't have the same oomph though, I have never tried a portable one.

Surely it was only blocked off temporarily to allow it to dry, it would be extremely silly if it was permanently unusable.

Finally this has made me realise what those wolves are for on that company's front lawn down on Burma Road!

Each time I drive kids out to Caven Point I say "Anyone seen the wolves?"

There are far too many Canadian Geese around, there is no doubt they need reducing in this area.

MDM - Why should gas taxes have to be used to fund transportation? That's like saying property taxes must be used to build housing.

Re: OMG, I saw traffic tickets being given!!

It must be said though that is a terribly designed, signposted and lane marked piece of road.

Most drivers would find it difficult to drive fully in accordance with the markings and signs without prior local knowledge of what is coming.

If you are driving straight across from Bright street north, you first find yourself in a right turn only lane with little to no warning, then, assuming you managed to stay in the correct lane for that part, the next block you find yourself in the wrong lane again as suddenly a left turn only lane looms with short warning.

During busy times you have cars beside you so it is difficult to make these two lane changes in order to legally maintain your northbound progress.

An extension in size is going to add value, compare the construction costs to the price / square foot similar units go for in your neighborhood.

The higher property prices go, the more financially attractive extensions become, with current prices downtown, we may see more going up.

That nice looking bike has been sitting there next to the park for a while now, I did think it was inviting trouble.

If possible lock it somewhere closer to your building, or the side fence over by the Citibikes might be better, that way it is not so prominently displayed in the path of young hoodlums walking by.

To sell food commercially it must be prepared in a licensed commercial kitchen, you can't make it in your home.

Getting licensed is difficult and will cost you, zoning approval, building permits, fire permits, sprinkler systems, commercial ovens, prepared food permits, food handler training.

You have no idea what you are getting into, forget all about it.

I think pebble's posts in this thread may have created a misleading impression. The pictures pebble posted are not typical or representative, many transsexual people are unable to "pass" as their desired sex despite their best efforts.

It is the folks who are unable to pass that the laws are designed to protect, the people in the photos upstream are not going to have problems using bathrooms as nobody will know anything about it.

This sounds a little crazy as I type it, but has anyone heard of a law where homeowners over 70 years old have their property taxes frozen in order to protect them from large increases?

It's an excellent statue, educational, striking and different, how many other statues in Jersey City cause you to stop and take notice?

I vote it statue of the century!

Sure beats the 1000th iteration of a man on a horse, or dull Washington spike (is it part of the constitution that all monuments to George Washington must be in the form of an upright spike like the one in Paulus Hook?).

Re: Cast Iron Porcelain tub repair

Is there any purpose to those screens? All they seem to achive is to block faucets and cause problems. It all seems to be part of a government conspiracy to reduce water flow wherever possible, with screens and aerator heads. Everything seems to work a lot better without them.

At my work office in Jersey City, instead of rinsing my hands for ten seconds under a tap with normal flow, I have to stand there for ten minutes(*) rubbing my hands under a diffuse sprinkle from a ridiculous aerator.

Robin.

(*) possibly a slight exaggeration.

Re: Fulop allies say freeholder playing politics with new aide

This reminds me of a [likely apocryphal] tale that circulated in England fifteen years ago when we were all shaking our heads at "those crazy Americans and their guns", anyway the story went thus:

Back then these new high-powered pump-action water pistols had just become popular, and there had been a spate of incidents in the USA (California?) where water pistol fights had got out of hand and led to fights escalating and real guns being pulled and shootings and murders occurring.

The solution, of course - Ban the new high-powered water pistols!

But it's a chicken and egg situation here, if my $2 million (allegedly what it's worth currently) brownstone attracts a $40,000 tax bill, then it's not going to be worth $2 million anymore, I think at the high end in particular the reval will have a real dampening impact on house prices downtown.
