Re: Man Found Dead on Heights Street with Knife in Chest

The man commits suicide in the middle of the street? This story sounds like it's missing some details.

Re: Replacing shut off valve on the water main line

That doesn't make any sense. Suez is responsible for replacing their meter. Now if the main can't be shut off before the meter, then that would be your responsibility. Check your house, there is usually a valve on the inside of your house but before the meter.

As long as that valve can be shut off for them to replace, it shouldn't be a problem. If you're saying that both your inside valve and the street valve need to be replaced, then you have a pretty large job ahead of you.

Scary stuff. Heard about the shortages in FL but didn't know it went that far north. Hopefully he will find a place with gas in route. I know that gas tankers are getting police escorts to get down there.

So basically, Fulop is running unopposed. I guess that means that nobody thinks they can beat him. Very unusual.

This is a pretty detailed update from AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

Profanity? Really? Clearly you care because you responded. This thread was started because MDM took it upon himself to name an unnamed tropical system that never progressed to a point where it was a named storm. I simply called that out for what it was which was speculation and hype.

Now there's a real storm in the Atlantic that he's speculating on as well. Right now, nobody is making predictions past Thursday in the Caribbean. Just keeping it real!

Armegeddon? Seriously??? If that is not the definition of Hyperbole, I don't know what is. Haven't seen one weather report making such assertions.

MDM wrote:
The last storm went ex-tropical before it got a name...

The next possible 'Irma' is showing two likely routes: One bending North and the other heading through the Caribbean.

The guys at Weatherbell have a model that is more in line with the Euro, albeit a bit farther North (think the path of Hurricane Andrew).

The GFS model was originally showing the storm going North well into the Atlantic. The latest update shifted the northern turn into our neck of the woods.

Below is the Euro model. GFS model. Rain totals (if the GFS model is accurate).

Again.... this is for a storm that if it comes, won't be into the late next week. A lot can change between now and then.

I would agree that Hoboken should have the higher median. They don't explain their methodology on how they compiled the data in the article.

I think you're confusing average with median. The article states that it's the median rent which means an equal amount of rents are both higher and lower than that figure.

Also, I couldn't imagine anyone over 30 choosing Hoboken over Jersey City. Even the side streets are packed with drunks on any night other than Monday or Tuesday.

Perfect example of why we shouldn't prematurely assign storm names to tropical systems.

It is currently an unnamed storm with not one mention on local news. Yes, MDM is usually good with updates but this one is a bit premature. I don't worry about flooding as I live in the Heights.

That's weird. I spoke with her yesterday and she just told me that their name changed to East Coast Hardwood. They're scheduled to give me a quote this afternoon. I'll let you know if they show.

The problem with refinishing floors now is the low VOC polyurethane is nightmare to work with.

This link pretty much describes my experience with it.

Unfortunately, I can't find the high VOC quart cans anymore for floor poly (still can get the high VOC in small can for spar varnish).

Tried the water base alternative... not impressed with the finish and the durability.

So what are the pros using now? And half the contractors are out of business, tried Alpine @(201) 533-0100, no go, apparently reassigned. Feel bad for the person, but she's an idiot for just hanging up and not saying it's no longer their number.

Re: Can I withdraw after seller accepts my offer

Once your offer was accepted, you should've retained an attorney. Both attorneys will review initial contract and draft riders to that contract. During this time you are in attorney review and can cancel at any time during that period.

Don't go by the 3 day rule, I just sold my property and was in attorney review for almost 10 days. I wasn't happy the the rider the buyer's attorney drafted, so I cancelled the contract during the attorney review period and accepted another offer.

Why don't you try Goshare. They're the Uber of moving and charge $1.29 per minute subject to a $35.00 minimum. I've used them for small moves and whenever I buy something from Home Depot that won't fit in my car. You can download the app on I Phone or Android.

In typical urban fashion, we are moving about 50 yards down the street from our current address. And we're caught between just renting some large flat dollys (or whatever they might be called) and just walking everything to the new apartment, or actually hiring a company that will load it up and drive it a half block. Does anyone have any experience working with a mover who doesn't really have to "move" via a truck? (Happily we're moving FROM a 5th floor walk up to a ground level apartment this time.)

Bustjc, it looks like Honeymovers just does the loading/unloading or packing/unpacking?

You could always try doing a flat fee MLS listing. If you go to mls2u.com (Continental Real Estate) you can list for a flat fee of $200.00, you retain the right to sell by owner while also being able to offer a small commission to a cooperating broker.

Once you pay the flat fee, your property will get picked up by all of the major real estate website feeds.

Is there an area on the site where I can look up stats for my neighborhood? I personally don't care about the stats in Greenville.

This is what I pointed out a couple days ago. The number of shootings has increased the last two previous years and so far this year the total is high for this time of year.

At this moment we have had at least 31 known shootings with 23 victims. In previous years we have had exactly 23 shootings between January and April. We have had the amount of shootings in less than 2 months we normally have in four and February still isn't over.

Can you source this, please? I'm not sure where to look. Thanks.

We haven't been given a total number of victims yet for 2016 but it is higher than the previous years on record. I stopped keeping track in the summer when we passed the 2013 total.

The statistics for 2013 to 2015 are in the compstat page under the precinct stats on the black bar next to where it says "Links".

For the number of shootings so far you can check the map in the article you posted.

Your toilet can be put out on whichever night your block allows for bulky items. On my block, that is Sunday night.

I've never had an issue putting one out on the bulky garbage night.
