I've eaten in Mantra a couple times - very good. Ordered takeout a couple weeks ago (a Wed. night around 8, nothing going on). Never again. They seemed opposed to delivering, told me it would be an hour (it was 20 minutes and yet the food was cold and indelible.) I like the restaurant and will continue to go but will never order delivery from them again.

Healy says the council "deprived the community of two tremendous public servants.... The people have spoken twice on Velazquez and the answer has been "thanks but no thanks." He offers nothing and people see through that. Is the HCDO Hispanic bench that thin that trotting Ray out for every opening is all they have to offer?

So if calling Healy a pedophile were done under the guise of "campaign strategy" that would make it "valid to explore"? Yes - the Connors comment was the innuendo to which I referred.

They get Bonnie Watson to double down on their mischaracterization. They completely fabricate the red-light camera thing into a Republican/Fulop Trojan horse - and then on top of it you give the spokesman another bite at the apple. If you were concerned with accuracy, you would say "Healy basing campaign on lying" and explore that. You could probably get a Rutgers professor to talk about the history of using lies as a campaign strategy. Maybe cite a few examples.

User 1111 - I know it's a lot to ask for you to understand, but not everything is meant literally.

I wouldn't dignify your comment by increasing the traffic on your site, Terrence. That is a bush league story. You write an article about a name that someone is called, build the foundation by repeating innuendo, factual inaccuracies and outright lies - giving voice to them all over again - all for the point of what, exactly? To muse about a "gambit" that may or may not work? You've always struck me as more professional than that.

Put another way - if enough people from the Fulop camp were to start calling Healy a pedophile and came up with a lot of pictures of Healy with kids around him - you'd go with that, right?

Re: Dan Levin in talks to run with Healy
Home away from home
Home away from home

Back to the topic at hand - the two things that strike me as most disturbing should Dan run with healy: campaign finance and taxes.

Dan: you sold your house and I assume you are renting. Healy conveniently punted the outcome of the revaluation until after the election. The revaluation is going to in all likelihood crush major portions of Ward E. Dan, how can you join that team when the outcome has been so politically engineered and in an extremely cynical manner, particularly when you have put yourself on the sidelines for the reval?

The other head-scratcher is your stance on campaign finance - you have spoken loudly and frequently about the need to reform the election process and work to get big money out of the system. I've agreed with you and admired your previous runs in which you put your heart and soul into the effort and did so without prostituting yourself in the process. Healy raised collectively $4 million last time, taking money from anyone who offered. How do you reconcile the fact that you will be heavily funded by entities with whom you (at least in the past) have been philosophically at odds with?

I've seen Candice at council meetings - just as I've seen Dan at meetings. They both tend to come when there is an issue of concern to them, which seems to fall into the occasional category. For my money, who really cares if someone running for council is a frequent attendee? Do people running for the house or senate go sit in Washington for years before they run? God help us all if the council consisted of the people who came to all of the meetings....

The Hugo Neu Corp. contributed $25,000 to Healy et al in the last election cycle. The founder is a major (scroll down to number 20) state and national political contributor. I suspect the Hugo Neu Corp. has bought the right to burn and release whatever they wish.

Bingo. And also - the fact that Jersey City is an Abbot district is all the more reason why outsiders SHOULD have access, if they want it. Jersey City pays less than 20% of the school district's budget each year - the state pays close to 3/4. If I lived somewhere else and sustained a head injury that left me with a desire to send my children to an underperforming Jersey City public school - I'd feel entitled as a tax payer of the state of NJ.

If you are to be believed - and I have strong doubts - you chose to come here from some part of the former Soviet Union. You had 200-something other options, yet you chose here. You sound miserable. Perhaps you should reconsider.
May I ask - what are your doubts based on? You are not one of them people who just reflexively attack other's verasity without any real reason, no?

As for why I chose this country - simple. Because of the two obscure documents. One is called a "Declaration of Independence", and it proclaims, as a Founding Principle of this country that the only legitimate work for a government is to secure the rights of the people. Another is called "Constitution" and it restricts the power of the government to an enumerated few items, and very sternly says that there are no other powers.

Yes, yes, I know, lots of people disregard those documents, - but even than, this country is still so much more free than all others. So, when I decided that I don't want to build socialism - I left and went to live in the most capitalist country in the world.

Now, my question: why don't you do the same? Like why not go live in a socialist country, if socialism is much to your liking? This way everybody will have what they want, no?

When I make a major, life-altering decision, I usually rely on research and ideas that are a little more current than the 18th century. I also try to base my decision on something more than jingoistic propaganda (I'd argue that Australia is more truly capitalist than the U.S. - it's like a big Texas just with an even stranger accent), but to each his own, I guess.

Why would I leave? More to the point, why would you suggest I move to a socialist country? You are not one of them (sic) people who just reflexively attack (an) other's positions without knowing what they are, no?

I have neither argued against nor for your views, just made the observation that you are clearly a frustrated, unhappy person. That much is clear from the amount of time you spend bitching on here about things you are unlikely to change. Being that upset on a permanent basis is unhealthy - it's not too late to go somewhere else and take up residence on CalgaryList or WiredMelbourne.
