So if we refuse to let the inspector into the house, or are not available to let them in, I guess they are just going to be doing an estimate for the basement, bathrooms, etc.? Or, do you think they'll go poking around and try to look in windows?

I ended up emailing my councilman, and about an hour or so later the DOB magically calls me back and said they were wrong and that the permit had been closed for a while now. They weren't sure why I was given a notice.

Anyone ever have any luck getting a call back from the Fire Sub Code Division at the DOB? I had a furnace replaced last year, and inspected/approved, but the permit it still open for some reason. The city left an orange sticker on my door to notify me of this, but all I can do is leave messages on their voicemail.

You're going to want to shop there. I used to go to Ranch 99 all the time when I lived in CA. It's a great store to have access to again.

- The instructions said to call the night before after 5pm. What are the chances that I get dismissed at that point? - Slim to none. You will most likely need to show up.
- assuming I show up the day of - and assuming the lawyers don't like me as a potential juror, am I free to go? Or will I just get recycled as a potential juror for another case? - You will be sent back to the jury pool to wait for another case. - Is this a minimum 2 day commitment? Or if I don't get chosen on the 1st day, I can go home and go on with my life? - If you are chosen to work a case, you would work that case. If you were chosen to work a case, but dismissed by the judge or lawyers, you go back to the jury pool. The last two times I did my jury duty they let us all go home after the first day saying there were no more cases on the schedule. - Can I bring a work laptop to jury duty to do some work? - yes you can. There are little desks with outlets you can work at. There is also wi-fi. Get there early if you want one of those desks. They fill up fast. Thanks in advance

JCMan8 - I understand your point perfectly, I just don't agree with it. Even if the situation you describe was reality, I still wouldn't paint all conservatives with such a broad brush. You may think it would fair to do so in that situation, but I would still argue it's never fair to do that.

I guess this is where we part ways then. I'm of the opinion that you would never use such a broad brush to talk about large groups of people. If you want to discuss specific examples, and instances, then I'm all for it, but you weaken your position by making such general statements.

You obviously know nothing about the left if this is what you really think. There are going to be violent extremists in nearly any group large enough. I agree, party leaders should be the ones to speak up against this kind of behavior. Then again, Republican leadership should also stand up to Trump. From an Op-Ed I read today: Many Republican members of Congress have made a Faustian bargain with Donald Trump. They don?t particularly admire him as a man, they don?t trust him as an administrator, they don?t agree with him on major issues, but they respect the grip he has on their voters, they hope he?ll sign their legislation and they certainly don?t want to be seen siding with the inflamed progressives or the hyperventilating media. Their position was at least comprehensible: How many times in a lifetime does your party control all levers of power? When that happens you?re willing to tolerate a little Trumpian circus behavior in order to get things done. But if the last 10 days have made anything clear, it?s this: The Republican Fausts are in an untenable position. The deal they?ve struck with the devil comes at too high a price. It really will cost them their soul.

I think you both missed my point. What I was trying to say is, you know that these violent protesters represent an extremely small portion of the people that have been protesting around the country. The overwhelming majority of protest Do I condone their behavior? Of course not. What they were doing is criminal, and they should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law. If I was there, I would have been denouncing it right then and there.
Next time try to be a little more open minded about things you disagree with, and try not to use such a broad brush. Otherwise people might get the wrong idea about you.

Can you please stop lumping in the violent little children with the rest of the left? I know they are on the left, but it is an extreme view point not shared by most other liberals. Just like all conservatives are white supremacists and in the KKK.
You usually don't lower yourself to such tactics. I thought you were better than that.

I have read the executive order. The only "threat" it mentions is that the rest the world is going to hell, and that means scarry people are going to want to come to the USA. No specific threat. I've taken the liberty to post the actual text from the executive order that pertains to the "threat".
Numerous foreign-born individuals have been convicted or implicated in terrorism-related crimes since September 11, 2001, including foreign nationals who entered the United States after receiving visitor, student, or employment visas, or who entered through the United States refugee resettlement program. Deteriorating conditions in certain countries due to war, strife, disaster, and civil unrest increase the likelihood that terrorists will use any means possible to enter the United States. The United States must be vigilant during the visa-issuance process to ensure that those approved for admission do not intend to harm Americans and that they have no ties to terrorism. In order to protect Americans, the United States must ensure that those admitted to this country do not bear hostile attitudes toward it and its founding principles. The United States cannot, and should not, admit those who do not support the Constitution, or those who would place violent ideologies over American law. In addition, the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry or hatred (including "honor" killings, other forms of violence against women, or the persecution of those who practice religions different from their own) or those who would oppress Americans of any race, gender, or sexual orientation.

What we did to Japanese American citizens during WW2 was constitutional; that doesn't mean we need to go down that road again.
