Written by Elon, so clearly there is a bias... but the details used to support the concept are fact:

http://jalopnik.com/to-the-people-of-new-jersey-1544011627

Let's be honest - this is what Christie and the MVC should be concerned about; (but that's OK - lets focus on protecting auto dealers)

The horror! Imagine all those poor Short Hills Mall shoppers who are having their civil rights trampled on-the 1%ers having a problem buying a car from the billionaire Tesla owner with Obama tax breaks!

And Sweeney not organizing the Legislature to allow it! It could be the civil right issue of our time methinks.

Can the NJ Senate President be impeached for this?

You are one of the best trolls on this site... always so intentionally inflammatory... or maybe its just the way you are.

Look - if a 1%-er wants a Telsa, not being able to buy it in Shorthills Mall isnt going to stop them... nor is this legislation. Dealers are a waste of space and speaking of 1%-ers... they are some of the best.

Monroe wrote:
with two sales outlets in NJ, their existing model is ONE service center, in Springfield, to take are of the whole state for service and warranty repair. Sure not very consumer friendly . . .

I'm not sure such a big deal should be made over a car (with a huge Obama 'green' tax break) that costs over $70K, to enrich a billionaire like Elon Musk though.

Did you not just acknowledge this is a 1%-er car? This is probably one of a couple cars... I guess they will just have to towed it to Springfield for repair and use the Ranger Rover instead... as an aside - repairs on the Telsa are driven by software updates and not mechanical issues. The car is literally an electric motor, battery, and some computers... pretty simple and require less maintenance.

BTW - if you have a pension fund or a diversified 401k you are likely vested in Tesla... so Elon becoming a billionaire is probably pretty good for your retirement (I happen to know it is for mine.)

Quote:

Monroe wrote:
And just how is the electricity generated to power these 'electric' cars? Does it come from wind farms?

Actually - it can be and I think the energy that powers their rapid chargers on highways is sourced from clean providers. Read up on power scheduling if this confuses you.

Monroe wrote:
Just imagine if Tesla sold a thousand cars without dealer support in NJ. A design fault causes every battery to fail. Consumers would be screaming at Christie after Tesla said 'well, it'll be 6 months before we can fix your cars'. But where is our consumer protection? Why did Christie allow this to happen?

Or, GM, Chrysler, and every other manufacturer decides to go the Tesla route.

Thousands and thousands of dealer employees lose their jobs.

Aside from being a HUGE logical fallacy... what you outlined is already a problem with the current dealer network... read recent news on Chevy Cobalt... they wont be able to fix the cars fast enough before the current recall potentially kills someone again... the car shouldn't be driven. I'd gamble your Cobalt buyer doesnt have a second car either.

I see your point on jobs... but that would assume that someone flips a switch and dealers go away... which isnt going to happen. What happened to all the factory workers in NJ - oh yeah, that's right - the economy changed and they found new jobs.

God - you are so inflammatory... (and kinda ignorant)

Michael Anthony's was awful...

The place was designed by the Kitchen Cousins (looks like Anthony specifically) - per their post on Facebook. As long as they get some talent behind the bar, I wouldn't mind sipping a nice cocktail and watching NYC light up on occasion.

Re: Domino's
Home away from home
Home away from home

I saw something similar... they are very focused on providing an entrepreneurial path for those who want it. The CEO was recently quoted as being excited that lending has re-opened because it will support people pursuing their dreams with their franchise... I like the sound of that.

People also like to forget that the American dream also includes retirement... meaning, many people look to their (state) pensions and 401ks to enjoy their lives post working career. Domino's has consistently performed for the past 20 years, contributing valuable equity (overall stock value and dividends) to many peoples retirement. I feel like we frequently forget there is a bigger picture here...

I am not a fan of their pizza, so I don't eat it... but I would invest in their company.

Little Caesar's, really? I might just drive up there to taste the pizza and see if it is still as bad as it was 20 years ago when there was one in my hometown!

On another note, while a Domino's franchise might not be quite the same as the cute little mom-and-pop, 100% locally owned pizzeria or other restaurant, I just stumbled across a story that gives an interesting statistic that blew my mind. A story on CNN says that about 90% of all Domino's franchises are owned by people who started out as delivery drivers or other entry-level employees. That's a great example of the American dream if I ever heard it.

Here's the story if you want to read:

Did you have to pay for the tow?

I empathize with your irritation and inconvenience (I would feel the same), but I also understand how this happened. Considering how thin resources are (likely) spread for snow removal and road repair at this point... I am not shocked there was limited warning.

A car buried for over two weeks would also be on the top of my list to tow. Honestly - I would look at it like I am doing them a favor...

I think its a great concept. The idea of hiking down the hall for the bathroom seems awful to me at this point - or being exposed to unknown people's bathroom habits - eeek.

It seems like a very nice bridge from dorm life to real life - and what you get for $1400 seems reasonable.

The only question I have - does the exterior of the apartment door come with a white board so I know when my friends stopped by for a visit?

Wondering if the >10% on the Hoboken waterfront is the influence of Stevens students.

Re: 30-Year-Old HC Man Killed in Short Hills Mall Car Jacking

Anyone else read through the the available details and think this stinks?? I think this was a 'job'

- Of all the available cars in Short Hills they went for an aged RR - the hot car is a MB. These cars dont just get dropped after a joy ride - they are on boats to Africa rather quickly... and plenty of nice cars sit in the valet with keys in the ignition
- They apparently approached the car, shot the dude 4 times, and left the wife untouched - why leave a witness if you were that willing to off the guy?
- His job was reviewing legal claims in construction... Hmmm?

My gamble - either the wife put this together OR this was a hit related to his job.

Regardless of what really happened.. my thoughts are with his family and friends - I cant imagine dealing with anything like this, let alone during the holiday season.

Erie has been Mugger Alley lately. I think Manila is a safer bet, if only for the higher density of car and foot traffic.
