Jersey drivers are not used to pedestrians as much? People need to re learn to look both ways maybe? It is true that the police need to enforce things a bit more around here, but maybe some drivers are still scared to drive in this area. How many car jackings have been reported this year? How many stray bullets have gone by in the area? I am not making an excuse for the drivers that hit & run, but if one thing is certain the jersey city police just are not making their presence known anywhere.

All the people with baby strollers frighten me as well. I see your point.

But seriously... I don't think drivers are blowing through intersections because they are nervous of a possible car jacking or random gun fire from someone trying to cross the street. They are just inconsiderate people that don't want to loose 3 seconds from getting from point A to point B,

Basically, I am not giving an excuse, but maybe an explanation as to why people drive the way they do. You almost have to drive aggressively to get where you need to go... around traffic, through road work, etc.

True... It is a battle to get around in a car in Jersey City, but it is the same in every heavily populated area. I have lived in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. All those places have the same problems with traffic, construction, etc., yet basic pedestrian law is observed by drivers. The difference is that in those cities the law is strictly enforced and drivers have learned that if they test the law they will get pulled over.

It is time for JCPD to step up and and enforce the law.

Is there a similar law in NJ?

There's a bill in the state assembly to address this. I think it basically says that if you're in the crosswalk, cars must stop and wait for you regardless of what the light says. And I thought that was just common sense.

Most of (A-1329) seems to further support the law that is currently on the books (39:4-36).

However, let's be honest here, there are a lot of people who jaywalk and walk in front of cars in the middle of the road where there are no crosswalks.

I think you have a point, but let's work on the drivers first...

The vast majority of pedestrians in downtown JC use the crosswalks. However, drivers on our streets almost never yield to pedestrians, especially at intersections where there are no stop signs or traffic signals.

What is it going to take to get JCPD to start enforcing 39:4-36 or parking enforcement to begin ticketing cars parked up to the crosswalks?

Have you tried walking three blocks west? There is a very nice b-ball court available and they just installed brand spankin' new glass backboards. The surface is much nicer than the old asphalt that is/was at the HP court.

The public can measure the success or failure of this new technology when the first images start getting leaked out to the internet for all to see. The temptation is too high for the screeners to share or sell images. It will happen once the machines are handed over to the underpaid and lackadaisical security staff.

Actually, one possible idea is ENFORCING the existing "No Turns" from Erie. The signs that on off hours post "No Turn On Red" are "No Turn" signs during rush hours.

I have never seen that as I never drive to NYC during rush hours. Good to know. I guess that idea failed.

In JC if you if you jaywalk you yield to traffic. In JC if you step into a crosswalk you yield traffic... Unless you want to be dead. The law isn't going to stop a car.

Update at the basketball court... The backstop on the east side of the court is gone and the fence has been chained up.

I walk my dog at EJP every day. There was a problem with dog poop a while ago, but it is much better now. I can only guess that the person/s that didn't pick up has left the area.

But about the park because I am curious...
Why are the baseball fields not available to the public? In the city I grew up, there were baseball parks everywhere and none were chained. My dad would take me out for batting practice and work on my infield game. Some of the best memories I have with my dad were on those fields. Would it be possible to open the fields up during the day for public use or are the fields private? Who runs the place? I'm serious... I would like to know and I don't know the history of the park.

Fisher Development Associates...
"Within the last 10 years alone has developed more than 3, 500,000 square feet of new construction and approximately 2,000,000 square feet of tenant installations. The company's distinguished portfolio in the New York/New Jersey region spans thousands of residences, plus many millions of square feet of prime Manhattan and New Jersey office, retail and hotel space."

Fisher Development Associates have been developing throughout the biggest boom in the real estate market. Now they have one bad year. I doubt that they are suffering.

Unfortunately it is not a serious crime in the NJ, but it should be. It is only a serious crime if a pedestrian is hit and suffers permanent injury. IMO the OP should consider him/herself lucky and just let it go. If the OP chooses to pursue the issue, they would be lucky for the driver to get a $50 fine, 'failing to yield to a pedestrian'.

Re: Residential Alarm Systems

ADT, Brinks, etc. are easy because they install the alarm for you. If you don?t mind doing an installation yourself or finding a handyman to do the installation you could save a lot of money on monthly fees. I found this (http://monitoring.homesecuritystore.com/) when I was looking up security systems for my home. $9 per month is the best price I have seen.

Re: 22% Increase, VVP section
Home away from home
Home away from home

NEW JERSEY LAW:
Under the Anti-Eviction Act, a landlord cannot make you pay an increase in rent that is so large that it is unconscionable, meaning that it is extremely harsh or so unreasonable as to be shocking. Unconscionability is not important to tenants if the apartment, house, or mobile home is covered by a rent control ordinance adopted by the city or township. In that situation, rent control limits the amount of the rent increase. Also, if you live in subsidized housing, or receive Section 8, federal law will determine how much your rent can be increased. In all other cases, the only protection you have is that the statute states that the rent increase cannot be unconscionable. Cite: N.J.S.A. 2A:18-61.1(f).

JERSEY CITY LAW:
The maximum cost of living increase is 4% or the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) whichever is less. In recent times the Cost of Living Increase has been less than 4%. The CPI-W is measured regionally and the one used is for the New York, Northern New Jersey Area. The statistics are published by the U.S. Department of Labor. You may obtain the information by calling the Division of Tenant/Landlord Relations at (201) 547-5127.

I just moved here to JC and this is just around the corner from me. All I have to say is that you have to see it to believe it. It looks like someone took a chain saw and cut the building in half. Now there are cops there 24/7 to make sure nobody goes in.
