I live downtown and FIOS is still not available in my neighborhood. I don't understand what the hold up is other than the usual Verizon incompetence.

I couldn't agree more. The only reason that monument was placed there was to win some Polish votes in a JC election.

Purcell was not using a City vehicle or on City work time. Augie Torres is a low-life. I'll be glad when the JJ closes so I won't have to read his crap any more.

It?s an interesting strategy by Louis Manzo to focus so much energy on slandering a candidate who isn't running for Mayor. Even when as late as this past Saturday Mr. Manzo was soliciting Steve to run on his ticket. I can't help but feel it?s very early days in the campaign for Mr. Manzo to be on the attack and offering nothing in the way of a positive dialogue. This is Mr. Manzo?s signature style of campaigning but be sure we will answer back with facts.

When will Mr. Fulop endorse someone for Mayor ? Logic would dictate he would endorse the reformer Dan Levin. His silence on this issue is curious.

Cops looking into incident that ended with Jersey City mayoral aide in hospital

by Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
Friday February 20, 2009, 7:13 PM

Jersey City police are looking into events at the Astor Bar and Grill and a possible altercation or assault involving an aide to Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy who was taken seriously ill there on Sunday morning, officials told The Jersey Journal today.

Police Director Sam Jefferson confirmed that the department's Major Case Unit is investigating a possible incident at the bar early Sunday between John Reilly and another individual.

At 1:04 a.m. Reilly was at the McGinley Square bar when he collapsed and was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center in "serious condition," officials said. An update on his condition was not available today.

Police Chief Tom Comey said that upon conclusion of the investigation into "a potential assault," the department will issue a statement on whether there was any criminality.

"Even right now we are still interviewing people and we are conducting a comprehensive investigation," Comey said this afternoon. "There is a tremendous amount of hearsay."

Comey said he personally called Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio to discuss the matter. No one has been charged.

Anyone with information on what happened at the bar that night is asked to call the Jersey City Police Department tipline at (201) 547-JAIL.

The Jersey Journal is biased in favor of Manzo. Healy is not perfect, but he is far better than Smith or Manzo. And Levin, though well meaning, simply has no experience in government.

Re: Enforcement of anti-smoking laws in JC

If someone is smoking illegally in a restaurant, bar, supermarket, deli or other business licensed by the Jersey City Division of Health, the Health Div. will issue fines against the business that allows the smoking to occur. If an owner of a business wishes to remove a smoking patron, they can call the Jersey City Police.

The Barge Inn in downtown Jersey City blatantly allows patrons to smoke. Complaints have been filed against them.

I suggest contacting state government. They issue the charter for Create, and are responsible for making sure that the school fulfills all requirements.

There are people out there who have been found guilty of public urination, are now forced to register as Sex Offenders, and are ineligible for employment in public schools.

I'd think that the State would frown on having Lipski in any position with a charter school, and they hold the purse strings.
Organize some letters or calls to them.

Good luck.

I really want to be at the next meeting, and perhaps calling the state would be a good idea.

Lipski also has his wife on the Create payroll. Nice work if you can get it.

Lipski may have done a lot of tireless work to found Create Charter, but he also gets paid $105,000+ to run it, he's not doing it purely out of the goodness of his heart, even if his biography on the City Council website indicates as such. If I knew how to tap into the state tax dollars like that, perhaps I would do the same. There are a lot of small businesses you can start that involve the same amount of effort and sleepless nights, but it is highly unlikely you will net $105,000 in your first year. And chances are you're either investing your own money or using a bank loan that you are personally liable for.

JCHA board returns Maio's powers

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

The Jersey City Housing Authority Board of Directors restored control over professional services contracts and personnel to Executive Director Maria Maio during a tumultuous meeting last night.

The board had taken those powers from Maio at a meeting last month, saying its members had not been properly consulted on issues such as the looming demolition of Montgomery Gardens.

Hooray for Maria !!! A good person who really cares. And a defeat for Fulop and Skinner. Good !

I cant believe you just said tearing down those projects will cut half the murder rate. What world do you live in?

Tearing down those projects will leave people who can't afford housing practically homeless. Solving the crime on Montgomery doesn't start with tearing it down, it begins with someone giving a damn about the lack of security in that place.

You speak as if everyone in there is vermin and the place MUST or SHOULD go down. Montgomery needs someone to stand up for them, BRAVO STEVEN for doing so.

Maio is doing her own thing over the authority of her own Commissioners, and you guys state she's a great "public servant"?

Tell me does a Great Public Servant, serve their public by telling em "Move out, we're making condos"

Again put a JCHA Director who cares. Out with Maio and her greedy ambitions.

Oh yeah, someone who cares like Troy Washington ? Most of the commissioners are idiots with political axes to grind. The projects are a blight on this community which need to come down !!!

Anyone who knows Maria Maio knows she is a highly intelligent and committed public servant. The moves under way to subvert her are at the behest of hangers on from the corrupt Cunningham regime at JCHA as well as from craven politicians in the City (Fulop).
