Re: Trump Our New President
Home away from home
Home away from home

I feel the decline started when we started to care more about making record profits every year, which is unsustainable, than we care about workers making a living wage that kept pace with inflation. Putting corporations ahead of all else would never work in the long term.

As far as our place in the future, I hope that it would be part of a welcoming group of countries that are working collectively to improve the world as whole; and focus on the progress of science and technology to help propel us to the next stage of life beyond this planet.

If you think we have it better that anyone else, I take it you haven't traveled abroad. Whether or not you want to admit it to yourself, America is no longer what it once was. You may long for the past, but in the present we are a joke on the world stage.

Jesus tap dancing Christ. This is exactly the kind of outdated thinking that got us into this mess in the first place. The USA is not the big bully on the block for much longer.

Would you rather find a way to work in the new system or be left out?

Give it time. Once his house of cards comes toppling down Republicans won't have a choice. Everyday you think you see a new low bar for how civilized people conduct themselves in public, and then good old Donny comes around to move the bar lower. If I were you JCMan8, I would be thinking of ways to not have the stench of the current POTUS rub off on you. Unless you're okay with his behavior. Then by all means, enjoy the ride!

Not to worry Trumpians. At this point he does not need to be charged with anything or even impeached. I think most people with half a brain already know that with a Republican controlled lower and upper house there is no way he is being impeached. The more plausible outcome as I see it is this; Trump becomes so toxic and such a liability to any other Republican that they try to distance themselves as much as possible for the mid-term elections as they try to save their jobs. I've got 3 words for you, Lame Duck President. Then we can all just ignore this childish little man and his outbursts.

Nope, that's called a deflection. It doesn't even make sense since President Trump doesn't benefit from ratings.

We have CNN's top personalities who promote this Trump Russia stuff - ratings catnip for ignorant "progressives" who look for any excuse they can to bash President Trump - who off camera admit they are selling a boatload of garbage. You've been played.

Do you honestly think think that a man who was obsessed with the ratings of his various TV shows before he was President, and cared enough to tweet about how bad they were after he was already President, does not care about his approval ratings?

To your other point, You keep bringing this up like it's a new problem for either side. Are there people on both sides of the issue that are "ignorant" as you call them, and will believe anything they are told without checking it out for themselves? Of Course there are. CNN and MSNBC play the left just like Trump played you and a good chunk of the country. Manipulating the media and it's viewers is one of, if not the only, thing he is actually good at.

Then what do you think they are doing? Making sandwiches in the Pentagon branch of Subway?

By definition a deep state is controlling the country.

Deep State
noun

A body of people, typically influential members of government agencies or the military, believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government policy.

You're the one that brought up the deep state. If you believe that the deep state is really the ones running the country, then I am not putting words in your mouth.

I find it laughable to think that our government would ever be "for the people" in it's modern incarnation. The government exists in it's current form to make the wold better for the fortune 500. I'm not sure what your financial status is Monroe, but unless you're the head of a fortune 500 company, the government could not care less about you or your problems.

But hey...that's just my 2 cents.

HAHAHAHAHAHA deep government that is a good one. It shows how little you know if you actually think there is anything resembling a deep state or deep government in the US. Thanks Monroe, I needed a good laugh this morning.

Why don't you go talk to people who came from countries that actually have a deep state or deep government. I know our system is fucked, but we are a pretty far cry from having any kind of deep state.

I say that because I believe that as science and technology progress, societies will cast off the ideas of nationalism and move towards a global society where we all work towards improving the lives of everyone on the planet.

Take the example of the coal miners in Pennsylvania that the POTUS uses so often as a prop to show he is doing a terrific job. It was never the regulations that, as the POTUS claims, killed the coal industry, it was automation and cheaper energy alternatives. I'm sure there was some measurable impact, but it was far from the only factor. The coal miners just want their jobs back, and I can understand why when the majority of your town is now out of work due to the closing of the mine. When the factory/mine of a factory/mining town closes it has a devastating impact on the people and the economy of the entire town. The problem though is those jobs are never coming back; at least not it any significant way, because most mining these days is surface mining, and the work can be done with far fewer employees operating machines. Is the same as in nature, when the environment around you changes, you need to adapt or die.

Stop looking at it from an us vs. them perspective, and start looking at it from the perspective of we are all in this together. The sooner we move to a global society the better it will be for everyone on our pale blue dot in space. The problem as I see it, is people not understanding, or caring, about how their actions can have long reaching repercussions.

Perhaps Carl Sagan said it best.
Resized Image

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

-- Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994

Re: Trump Our New President

Home away from home

This whole thread has devolved into something so absurd on so many levels. No amount of "MSM is fake news" or "MAGA" is going to convince the die hard supporters on either side. The world as a whole is moving towards being more inclusive and working as a global society. A lot of Trumps supporters feel left out, and they have every right to feel that way, but it's wrong to think that everyone else needs to change to fit their narrow minded view of the world. Instead I suggest that is is they who need to adapt to the new world they live in.

Whether you want to admit it or not, the good 'ol US of A is in a pretty bad spot right now. I understand how tough it can be to go from being the big kid on the block where everyone does what you say, to having to share your toys with everyone else. We are in a transitional period, and it's normal that there be a lot of chaos as we adapt to our new place in the global society. At the end of the day the question you need to answer for yourself is, do I want to be on the right or wrong side of history.

And what basis do you have to make that statement? I asked this same question earlier in this thread about what would happen if you don't let the inspector in. That was the general response. If it's a condo, there are likely identical condos in the same building. The appraised value could be very well equal to the other similar or identical units. Valid point

Contrary to popular belief, it's not like the old days and the inspectors can just make up a number. There is so much eyes on this recap, do you really think an inspector is going to inflate a number to get back at a homeowner that didn't let them in? Not what I was suggesting at all. If you were to, hypothetically, take all the comps in the area but your property was worth less than the comps, it could end up not in your favor. If anything, they should be leaving thank you notes as it makes their job easier relying on public records instead of personally inspecting.

The inspector will leave a note telling you they were there and it should have a date when they will come back. From the inspections done so far it looks like they will come back on a weekend. Even if you don't let them into your place when you're home the Inspector will do an estimate based on similar properties. The estimate will usually not be in your favor.
