I agree it's feasible, unlike the bridge. I'm just not certain how the number can be much better than a ferry. The problem I saw looking into it was the intrinsically limited capacity, whether the balanced 2 car system with giant cars carrying hundreds of people like in Vietnam, or the many car system like a ski lift that are much smaller and typically 8 passenger.

I decided the latter was better, because you can create multi-stop lines. You could have a line coming from the West Side Watefront, a stop at Mcginley Sq, Exchange Pl, and then over to WTC or BPC.

I guess you missed the previous discussion. It's really only a good idea by comparison to the pedestrian bridge notion some people actually insist is a good idea because they want to walk to Manhattan.

Hmm, seems pretty silly considering how underutilized that bridge is. Just make a shuttle bus route over it from a commuter lot on SI. Google says it's less than 10 minutes @8am.

Now a Hudson Gondola from Xchange Pl to WTC is an awesome idea.

That's awesome. Guilty till proven innocent! Go JC!!! FWIW big brother could have gotten you out of that ticket. I have Metromile insurance with a GPS dongle that tracks my every trip, and the time it was made. Think how fabulous that would have been to whip out the phone and show that prick you had left.

Guilty or innocent, we're just meat in their machine. I learned that for sure with the sanitation tickets.

Yes, that worked out well for them. Grown-ups hold their nose and vote for the least bad candidate rather than stay home like petulant children.

The problem with your "holiday" idea is that increasing numbers of Americans do not hold traditional "jobs" at all. The gig economy and numerous low paid jobs do not give paid holidays, so you're taking a day's pay from them.

I hate to have to break it to you, but there's more to both JC and Grand St than Downtown. That section is up by Arlington Park. The plan as described sounds very much like the changes to Observer Highway in Hoboken east of Marin. Wasn't the end of the world, but I think there's more traffic on Grand.

I think that's probably a stretch, take a look at this 1919 map, the TPK did not take out very many residential blocks, certainly not the heart of the neighborhood. There was not much other than the RR north of what is now Columbus. And it wasn't built till 1956.

Personally I do not have a problem with the currently incarcerated having their franchise temporarily suspended as part of their loss of freedom and rights. It's the states that have permanent loss to those who have served their time that is very disturbing.

LOL. The VNA is less than a decade old! But the HPNA was adamantly against storefronts 2 decades ago. I never figured out why. I think there's a lot of suspects in this 'crime', but nothing conclusive. Was it increased car ownership, rise of big boxes like supermarkets instead of local butchers, greengrocers & bakers, profitability of converting storefronts to condos, or all of the above?

I was told by the Italian neighbors my building used to be a butcher shop. The whole ground floor and brick storefront was rebuilt as an apartment around 1950. I think there was a fire.

If they credit us for our toll I don't see the problem that Fulop's trying to solve. The real issue is the GWB should get the credit too, or else it will drive traffic to the tunnels.

While the east river crossings aren't our problem, this seems to perpetuate the shitshow of inequity between the free bridges and the tunnels if you're only charged on the bridges going inbound and the tunnels charge both ways.

AAA bitching about getting no money for roads from the deal is pretty funny. They really don't get it!

Basically we spend more on everything than almost anyone else, except extracurriculars, in which we are 11th Percentile.

I have a modest proposal. Why don't we simply stop sending kids to the school system. It's clearly what they would like, the district is being run by and for it's employees, any education is merely incidental. Alternatively, the District should declare bankruptcy like GM as a way to shed absurd union contracts and retirement obligations. Or maybe get rid of the district and go all charter like New Orleans. What we're doing is simply not working for anyone but the staff and contractors.

PS: Among the things being cut for next year at McNair is many non-STEM AP classes. Anything that could not create at least a 30:1 teacher/student ration is gone.

The problem with getting this kind of work done is everything looks so great compared with what was there before, that they're paid and gone before you really see the crappy details. I've had to rip out work and do it myself.

We live in the land of the entitled, and no one is more entitled than when they're in their car. How many times have you seen someone double parked right next to a parking spot that they couldn't be bothered to pull into? My favorite is when people double park on both sides of the street making it a slalom course because God forbid they have to cross the street.

What a piece of work this one is. Nothing like being inconsiderate and then being belligerent when called out on it. She claims she was blocking a drive way for only a few seconds, yet the video lasts 5 minutes.

Wow, end of an era. It means something but I'm not sure what. I've been here 22 years and have only set foot in the place once. It was enough. I hope it doesn't get turned into residential. A coffee & pastry shop there with outside seating would make a fortune if the rent was reasonable.

No, that was more general Green Card paranoia on my part. I did have a tenant call all sorts of agencies on me once though. Gone, thank God, all my tenants are pretty decent now, all but one high functioning.

My biggest concern now is this new FD inspection activity. That's going to be a shitshow. A perfect storm of poor training and aggressive behavior.

Uggh. Even with a motion cam like a Wyze, you don't even know there's an issue till you get a ticket weeks layer. Then you need enough memory to keep weeks of captures, and have to dig back through them. Even if you know the day, on a busy street that's a whole lot of screening.

Lets take an "Originalist" POV on this: what could we possible do to protect ourselves before this cam technology? Surely any good legislation can't need to be based on the latest tech to be fair? One thing I'm glad of is most people don't know how nasty these fines are, what an opportunity for disgruntled neighbors and tenants to screw with you.

It's not the entire city, just certain blocks, and often just the one side that was previously 4 hr visitor parking and the other is still resident only. Gotta say it does free up more spots for visiting. There's a plan to really bump up the cost though.
