Ordered from here yesterday; delivery was quick - under 30 min - and food was just as good as the Grand St location. And they gave you everything/condiments/etc. you get when you eat at the restaurant.... I appreciate that consistency.

WF delivers to JC? I just tried using that on the site, and it says they don't. Has anyone used that service?

Yeah, this article seems more like propaganda in advance of Monday's meeting. They don't even cite references/sources or who they're getting the info from. I'm calling BS.

We're big into coffee (we are currently going through a list of the top roasters in the US and ordering beans). In JC, here's mine:

Dames (Counter Culture beans; good service but tight space; friendly)

ModCup (source and roast own beans)

Warehouse (Intellegentsia beans; good specialty drinks; nice space)

Word (Stumptown beans, which are our coffee preference at home)

LOL! I completely agree. And if anyone finds out if the deli is moving, please post. I'll have to ask this weekend during my next SANDWICH fix (for those who don't like sammy :)

Welcome, looking forward to trying! It definitely fills a need. Good luck!

Not to turn this into a 7th St Deli discussion but they were a frequent breakfast/lunch place for us - egg sammies and ramen were our faves. Anyone know if they are opening something elsewhere?

For the price of the school, I'm hoping the kids are reading the instructions from IKEA and putting the furniture together too :)

Where would that go? It's either 6th St, the alley or people's property.

Awesome!

Only note, poor editing by News 12, the manager says, she "does NOT think they are going to..." open it as a bar/have events every night...

Whereas the content says, "Assistant General Manager Liz Berg says the station is probably going to open the venue as a bar that has events every night of the week, though it does not have a permanent name yet."

I read the content and was like, "cool" and then watched the video. It's still great!

An updated article:

I didn't know the young woman, but the father was always so friendly, standing on his stoop talking to us/other neighbors as they passed. I live one block down and the community is stunned. My prayers are with them.

It's a residential fire on 5th St, closer to Coles. A lot of ambulances and fire trucks. I hope everyone's OK.

Pizza Vita & HP Farmer's Market: What Happened?
Home away from home
Home away from home

On Wednesdays, we look forward to grabbing a blanket and going to HP to grab two pizzas from Pizza Vita (the truck) during the farmer's market. We've not seen them for several weeks, and when I asked them if they would be back, they said:

Unfortunately we will not be @hamiltonparkjc organizer went in a different direction w other vendors

Anyone know what happened? It's a bummer...they seemed to do really well and people enjoyed them.

I agree, I've found most forms accept 1/2. Actually, the one site I know that doesn't accept anything is Victoria's Secret... so I just leave it off. Get to know your neighbor and that'll be your fail-safe.

Jersey City Pre-K Registration Process: Survey
Home away from home
Home away from home

The Jersey City Board of Education is interested in feedback on the pre-K registration and lottery (if applicable) process that occurred between March-May 2014 for the 2014-2015 pre-K enrollment year.

The survey is short and should take less than 10 min.

Thank you for your time!

I'm not really sure how relevant test scores are to the discussion. Pre-k kids are essentially learning structure, how to socialize and the basics of elementary education, not the theory of relativity.

Jersey btwn 7th and 8th (the wrought-iron work and building exteriors of the brownstones closest to the park) and 7th St between Jersey and Erie (it's just a beautifully shaded street).

Re: Jersey City school board, mayor at odds over boosting pre-K classrooms

Good article... what I don't follow, and I am pretty naive about this topic as my daughter isn't ready for pre-K, is what the BOE plans to do should they be able to set up a fund and work with existing buildings? Is their plan to add more classrooms to downtown schools? More floors? etc.

The BOE President said, "One of the quickest ways to fix these schools would be to create a Buildings Improvement Fund. Developers could contribute to this fund and the city could disburse it to upgrade existing schools...."

In other words, I get that the schools are poorly maintained, old, etc. but if the root problem is lack of space downtown, does "upgrading" the schools include ADDING space? That could be clearer.

Do you know if bussing is only a possible solution for pre-K or also for kindergarten? We are only interested in part-day schooling until kindergarten so I'm wondering if the city has to allow you to go to our own zone for kindergarten.

We've lived here for almost 10 years; there's no other place we can imagine being.... unless we have to bus our kid to school when the time comes.

We've dealt with horrible flooding and, at times, lackluster city services for the many benefits that do exist in JC. But if we have to drive or bus our daughter to a school in a different part of town when her zoned school is a 5-min walk, we might as well be in the 'burbs. That's the nail in the coffin. I'm hoping the BOE and Fulop can align and figure this out.

Re: Fulop to solicit proposals from for-profit companies to replace FOL in running the Loew’s theater
Home away from home

I don't believe anyone disagrees with the outcomes of the proposed work... everyone wants to see the Loew's and surrounding area thrive. But how you go about doing it is key. It seems the FOL are being treated disrespectfully. I loved the comment about city officials playing around with the equipment.... like a bunch of 4-year-olds.

I feel awful for the FOL. We got married there and have a real soft spot for the space. My husband had been to several concerts there and has said they've always been handled very well.

These people have given years of their lives protecting and improving the Loew's. Now the city has an interest and sees the potential that these people always have; for them to feel as though they're not included in the process, or worse, feel as though they've done nothing of substance with the little resources given, is pretty heartbreaking. I would fully support FOL if they try to organize and petition their ability to compete for this RFP or at least be a mandatory voice/SME as part of the final project.
