F it then. Let the large chain establishments compete with the mom & pop establishments (without any government intervention) and let the JC consumer decide the correct mix.

Nonsense. Christie called their bluff, and will end up saving NJ billions of dollars. Anyone claiming that the project would've come in at budget hasn't put down the crack pipe, because every project like this always overruns.

Further, the Pulaski Skyway diversion is pennies compared to what the PA dropped into the WTC rebuild. Just how does an office tower come under the umbrella of transportation needs? Quid pro quo, baby, that's all that was.

And listening to comrade De Blasio cry about how NJ made a mistake by not proceeding with the earlier project-sure he's crying, now NYC will have to put in some dough to bring in all those commuters paying NYC and NY sales and income taxes! Tough nuts.

Why does NY not want to pay their fair share? Because they're used to NJ being chumps. Well, Corzine signed on a chump deal, and Christie properly stepped on it.

So we start again, this time with everyone sharing the pain equally. Had that been done before the tunnel would be started already.

Exactly right.

Why would they, that's an internal NY project.

So why the fuck do you think New York cares about NJTransit?

Because NJ Transit uses tunnels shared by both states!! LIRR does not! Duh!

Yeah I heard about the mineral scale problems in hard water areas. But like you mentioned I also thought scaling might not be that big of a problem for downtown JC residents.

Has anybody switched from a traditional electric hot water heater tank to a tank-less, gas powered, hot water heater?
When my current electric hot water heater breaks down I am thinking of making the switch to a gas powered tank-less model to save space and money. I am wondering if anybody else has already made that switch.

You missed the point Pebble, JC and other urban districts received state funding for public schools based on the income of those residents, besides tests scores. This plus the fact that we are giving away the ratable base through abatements, I believe this Senator has a point in reducing our state aid for public schools.

Yvonne, have you taken a look around certain areas of Jersey City? When was the last shooting in Bayonne? There is a primary reason why taxes are so very low in a lot of areas.

There is also a primary reason why people pay a lot in taxes in other parts of the state.

The fact is, this house, along with thousands of others, are up for sale. Mr. Doherty can purchase them and pay the same tax rate. He doesn't want to. Instead of complaining about someone else getting a break, maybe he should think a bit further about why someone else is paying less.

Yet Fulop sees no problem filing a $400m lawsuit against the Port Authority because of his complaint that the Port Authority is not paying enough in property taxes to JC as per the tax abatement agreement between the city and the Port Authority. That's rich.

If I have to explain to you the similarity in motives between those who want to burn the Confederate Flag and those that enjoy burning the Koran then you are dimmer than I thought. You're really in over your head here.

Please. If I had a nickel for every time somebody or some group ran around screaming like Chicken Little whenever something impacts how people travel around the NYC area I'd have about $.30.

Honestly, there have been numerous times over the last 20 years where people run around saying how the sky is going to fall in regards to local travel every time there is a discussion about improvements being made to existing infrastructure or additional buildings being built. And every time the worst case scenarios predicted have never come to fruition because the dire predictions were tremendously overblown.

I see no reason to think this time will be different.

Terrence, does the JJ have a written policy regarding when they will mention a criminal suspect's race? You seem to be implying when there is a picture of the suspect, the article will say it. As others have mentioned, this doesn't seem accurate. But if that is your stated policy then I assume we will have consistency.

For consistency's sake I removed that he is white. I presume this will end the controversy here.

I can only speak for myself, but I did not care that you said he was white. I think the reason you are seeing this reaction is that folks simply want to see a stated policy that is consistently and evenly applied.

In other words, no double standards.

Again, speaking for myself, l would prefer that race always be mentioned if available. This is how it's always been done and I see no reason not to include it if available. Plus it would help to identify and catch the suspect in the admittedly small chance someone spots him.

But applying the same standard to everyone is what's fair.

This is a really a conversation for my editors. Anyone who cares about this should reach out to them.

That's just a cop out from answering the question posed about any official or unofficial policy regarding the publishing of a person's race in JJ articles. While yes it may in fact be the responsibility of the editors to determine what gets published they surely provide feedback to you from time to time so that they have to make fewer edits in the future. What does that feedback indicate when it comes to the posed policy question vis-?-vis race reporting.

Plenty of Democrats have donated to Steven Fulop, a Democrat the last time I looked. They don't seem to have a problem with his racist (and sexist) views:

From June 24, 2014 Wall Street Journal article:
Says Fulop - "I'm not all that excited about a train ride with hundreds of predominantly white males," he said. "But it's something you need to do."

Good for Cami!!! Given how ungrateful Newark and its children have been regarding her efforts it's about time she said sayonara to them all. Let that city stew in its own filthy education system while Cami takes her talents elsewhere. I'm happy for her. And I'm happy for Newark too. That city absolutely should get the crappy education system it deserves. Cami would have just stood in the way of that.

Can you guys possibly be any more short sighted?

That's just a dumb, dumb statement.
What would really happen is:
1) We would have to pay higher wages to entice the remaining people that want to work as babysitter/nannies to do so. Essentially the minimum wage would be naturally raised instead of artificially raised by the government.
2) there is rampant slow service in restaurants as it is. Illegal immigrants don't ensure prompt service.
3) We will still have food deliveries if we want to pay more for it. Again the minimum wage would be naturally raised.
4) Same logic applies to having to cleaning my own home. And there is nothing impossible about doing it myself.
5) If I don't want to pay $6 per head for lettuce I'll buy something cheaper.

And the best part is the reduction in my Medicare taxes will be applied to any of these extra costs I voluntarily choose to pay.

That's the correct long sighted view......

Ummm, how about so that I don't have unnecessarily idly wait for one of these slow poke attendants to fill up my car while I could perfectly well do it myself quicker?
How about it would decrease fraudulent credit card use since many of these credit card fraud cases are traced back to a visit to a gas station where you hand your card over to a criminal?
How about the fact that artificially keeping occupations in existence that otherwise would be obsolete has proven over and over again to be a ridiculous waste of resources?

Duh.

As someone that's spent time traveling this country, we are rather fortunate that on the days when the weather is at its worst, we can sit comfortably in a warm car while someone else handles the labor.

On top of this our gas is still cheaper than just about anywhere.

Honestly, in your mind, do you believe that the companies will lower the price of fuel to accommodate the shortening of labor? If you do, then you are the dumbest person on the planet. Essentially, you are advocating for a reduction in service for the same price. I cannot think of anything more absurd.

Honestly, in my mind, I DON'T believe that the companies will lower the price of fuel to accommodate the shortening of labor. At least not in a dollar-for-dollar fashion. But are you so dumb that you think we, meaning the gas purchasing public, ARE NOT paying for that unnecessary labor right now? Because that would be the real idiotic position. It stands to reason that if the cost of the wasteful labor goes away then we, the gas purchasing public, would at least have our money funneled to more worthwhile functions.

Seriously though- it's always a shock to see these proposals. However once they are built everyone just adapts to it, moves on and prospers. People should learn more from recent history/ experience and cut the chicken little BS.

I think I'm going to start my own al fresco dining experience in the park. Since it seems perfectly OK for other people to exploit the free space so that they can make some income then I might as well do that too. I'm going to commandeer an area of the park with chairs and tables and sell food and soft drinks to people that want it. Yeah that would be great. Maybe I'll just takeover the gazebo to serve food since apparently people can use any space they want to in the park to generate their own business income.
