The City Of Jersey City is now using WebScene.
http://www.websense.com/global/en/ Many of you who work in the private sector are well aware of this program. It blocks chat rooms, ebay. Sports, game programs, etc. IMO , long overdue and anything that can help increase productivity is a good step in the right direction.

SPOKESMAN HELPS COPS COLLAR 3
Saturday, September 02, 2006 By KEN THORBOURNE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Normally, Stan H. Eason, a spokesman for the city of Jersey City and the Police Department, is giving the news to reporters. But on Thursday night, Eason, a former award-winning reporter at The Jersey Journal, became part of the story. Displaying quick thinking and daring, Eason helped police nab three juveniles who were arrested and charged with robbing and beating a Jersey City man, police said. "Clearly, any citizen who would get involved is an asset to the city and the Police Department," said Jersey City Police Director Samuel Jefferson. "Because of his (Eason's) quick action we were able to apprehend these three juvenile males who did a violent act upon a law-abiding citizen." Shortly after 10 p.m., Eason spotted three youths punching a man on Montgomery Street, police said. The youths men grabbed the man's cell phone and a bag and took off on bicycles - and Eason followed in his jeep, police said. While in pursuit, Eason said, he called a police dispatcher on his cell phone, described the youths, and kept police updated on their movements. When they stopped on Varick Street, apparently to review their loot, Eason kept watch, pulling his car to the side and turning off his headlights, he said. Guided by Eason's play-by-play, police arrested two of the youths, both 16, at the Jersey Avenue Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station and the third, a 15-year-old, at the old Colony Mall parking lot on Bright Street, police said. All three are Jersey City residents and were charged with robbery, police said. The victim, a 27-year-old Jersey City man who was walking home when he was attacked, was treated by paramedics at the scene for cuts and bruises, police said. Asked what motivated him to get involved, Eason said his primal instincts took over. "They just pissed me off," he said. And, Eason stressed, none of the three arrested are strangers to the criminal justice system. According to police, one has been arrested eight times. One was arrested three times, including an incident in which he was caught with a gun and charged with assaulting a police officer. Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said he's seeking to have the two 16-year-olds, now being held at the Hudson County Youth House in Secaucus, tried as adults. "The most troubling thing is how many times you have to catch the same people," Eason said. "The system failed that victim. But the police did a hell of a job. They were called and they responded." ? 2006 The Jersey Journal ? 2006 NJ.com All Rights Reserved.

Thank you for replying so quickly, boy you really had to do some digging to resurrect this thread. Once again Dan you?re wrong. I have never bought a political fundraising ticket, sold a ticket or ever hacked them out, NOT MY STYLE! I don?t even attend these types of events. I make it a policy never to do this and the Councilman was aware of this when he hired me. When the Councilman hired me he knew right from the start that the only thing I contribute too, do soliciting of funds for, or volunteer my time for is chartable causes. 1) Again the only fundraiser that my boss, the former Councilman had during the winter was for the Tsunami Victims and yes I worked very hard on that one. Proudly we raised over $20,000.00. 2) It would have been impossible for me to be at any Council meeting from mid October thru October 31st because I was on the West Coast taking my first Vacation in over a year, and days after that my father took ill and died on shortly after. I didn?t return to doing any evening Council meeting or neighborhood group meetings till December. My time in the council office during December was only in the day time, If you recall I did the fundraising and the event for the Chavez family who was the single mom with three kids who lost everything to a fire and had no insurance. Also, I do the Dear Santa letters for over 1200 children a year so there goes me at any December night time anything, the only place you could find me in the evening was at a toy store filling Dear Santa letters. So this leads us into January/February when I returned to going to all the Council meetings and also was the time that Former Councilman Maldonado did the fundraiser event for the Tsunami Victims, and yes he did ask me to give some tickets to a few select folks. and BTW if you recall Junior did have a fundraiser in early September 04, that was the last political fundraiser he had and where he did invite the folks from 111 join him as his guest, many of them attended and he had the chef prepare them. whatever they wanted, as you recall many had the electric shut off due to that Arson fire at their building, and Junior felt they may need a night off from all the drama. Possibly you were aware of this but the invite was for the folks from 111 St., not you! So before you accuse me of anything, make sure you get facts and your dates straight. My facts are the facts; your attacks; like a hole in water, just false accusations that have a distorted time table and little to no merit... And one more thing Dan, ?president of a civic organization?, your ?Fire, Ready, Aim? type of personality/temper will get you little to no results. You may want to re-think your approach NOT everyone is the bad guy! Best of luck to you!

Dan, you?ve lost your mind! You?re correct on one point and ONE point only, we never corresponded via city e-mail. BECAUSE YOU WOULD ONLY SEND E-MAILS TO MY AOL HOME ACCOUNT! Btw, the tickets we offered to you and everyone else? was to the fundraiser that was being done for the victims of the Tsunami, where 100% of the proceeds went to Unicef. Also, I had nothing to do with PAD and left that strictly to the Councilman, the only involvement I had was with 110/111 when they were not working within the scoop of their permits and the city ordinances. I would never have made a call to anyone to discuss the PAD since I wasn?t fully knowledgeable in that area. You really do have a distorted view on the correct facts. Have a happy day, as always it's a pleasure.

This thread is going from bad to worse.
Fact: Dom was a great guy and a great "peace officer" Fact: His death was and still is a great loss to many of JC residents and also to all the children that he helped on duty and off. No person on or off this tread should lump any group together, I do not base my hatred to the Gavina brothers based on race, I do it solely on the fact that they had no regard for human life and were able to run to the garage or the trunk of a car to retrieve a solid steel pipe and bash it over the head of another human being so brutally, that it killed him. IMO- The Gavina brothers are not worthy to be included in the wonderful Filipino community that is here in Jersey City. Every situation that is heated no matter what race or religion some people will play the race card to try to prove their innocence or a point and IMO try to steer the whole thing away from the basic facts and make it into a racial issue. This was not about race; it was about two brothers with bad enough tempers that they killed a very kind, passive person. And btw I have witnessed first hand Dominick in his capacity as a police officer, defusing a very heated situation and even during the arrest he treated the actor fairly. I hope those posting on this tread, sees that even thou the Chil post is totally f-in out of line, the direction this tread is going is wrong and we all be a bit more tolerant and sensitive about making this a race issue. PS -my jerk face, idiot, spoiled rotten, cute, loveable, nut job, diva dog....... it was Dom who spent 45 mins helping me get her in the building and up the elevator, after she was rescued and released from the animal hospital. I found out after his death that he was a bit fearful of large dogs and I had no clue. I was alone with the dog trying to get her in my building as he drove by in a squad car; he stopped to see if everything was alright because he noticed me struggling. He helped without ever letting on to his fears; I will be forever grateful. I miss Dom and his friendly smile!!!!!!!! My prayers are with the Infantes family always.

Hmmmm, you may want to do a bit more research on the facts of the events and also how hard Dom was hit in the head with that pipe. There are a few people on this board who knew Dom well, so not to upset them I will NOT go into graphic details. The result of the blow to his head was so hard that when I heard the medical description of the crime scene I needed to look up what the term actually was. The force was so powerful that he was BASICALLY BRAIN-DEAD AT THE SCENE. I WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT.! And also btw as you know I post this using my real identity, I choose to do this because people were getting out of control and if I don?t have the guts to post something under my real name I will not post at all, so I say this as Robin Pinkowitz , "ChiltownJerz go to hell!"

. Thank you so much for posting this, many on this site are new to the area and have no clue what Dom meant to us in Hamilton Park. Dom was our beat cop and a partner to Officer Lou Destafano.
The picture was taken by an H.P. resident Kathy B. at the Hamilton festival approx one month before he was assaulted and less than 3 weeks after he married. That day he brought his new wife to the park and introduced her to all of us. This man was such a gentle soul and I was never more honored when the prosecutor asked me to speak during the sentencing phase of the trial. The Judge sentenced the animal to the fullest extent of the law required based on the jury?s decision. I have no clue what that jury was thinking. I will never forget how Hamilton Park along with the rest of Jersey City paid tribute to Dom, during the time of his assault, death, the plaque dedication at the gazebo and most moving was the candle light vigil when the verdict was reached that drew hundreds to the park. Also, I found it amazing that the picture you posted was also lamented and hung for over 3 years on the light pole at the entrance to Hamilton Park. It was put up with push pins and remained untouched till I took it down and gave it to the East district. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and also to all of those in the East District on this day, the 5th anniversary of Doms passing.

I found this on the net: STATEMENT OF JERSEY CITY MAYOR JERRAMIAH HEALY ?After gathering with my family on Friday evening to celebrate the graduation of my niece from the State Police training facility, the last thing I ever expected was to be a part of a police response gone awry. Upon leaving Barry?s Tavern & Restaurant, my sister?s establishment in Bradley Beach, to walk home with my wife and family, we encountered a couple in a dispute just down the street. The Bradley Beach Police arrived and I approached the lead officer to tell him that the woman was not at fault. Without cause or provocation, the police officer grabbed my arm, threw me to the ground and handcuffed me. At no time during did I offer any resistance. During this incident my wife was shoved by the police to the ground whereby she sustained injuries to her ankle and leg. While immobilized by several police officers, the police officer who handcuffed me asked another officer for mace and proceeded to spray first into my left eye and then into my right eye. I have owned a home in Bradley Beach for many years and my family has spent a lot of summers here. Through the years, we have met a number of fine officers in the Bradley Beach Police Department, and the actions of this officer do not reflect the entire department. My wife and I have retained Ralph Lamparello of the law firm of Chasan, Leyner & Lamparello, and we will be filing a criminal complaint with the Monmouth County Prosecutor?s Office as well as a Civil Complaint against this officer. On advice of Counsel, we will not be making any additional public comments, as it is a matter now for the judicial system.?

Updated story link
Mayor Jerramiah Healy arrested outside Bradley Beach bar Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy was arrested and charged with disorderly persons offenses and resisting arrest outside a Bradley Beach bar early yesterday morning, police said today. According to Bradley Beach police, Healy repeatedly tried to involve himself in an investigation outside Barry?s Taven ? which is owned by the mayor?s sister, Kathleen Barry ? despite warnings that cops would arrest him if he didn?t leave. Police say Healy then resisted arrest, leading to two disorderly persons charges. After handcuffing Healy, around 2 a.m., police took him to Bradley Beach police headquarters, where he was released 90 minutes later, reports said. He faces up to $2,000 in fines and six months in jail if he is found guilty. He is set to stand trial in approximately two weeks, police said. Healy, his sister and at least one eyewitness disputed the police account of events. In an interview today at the bar, Healy said he was just trying to calm down a man outside the bar who started jumping on his girlfriend?s car after she refused to let him drive home. When police showed up, Healy informed them that the girl was not at fault, he said. At that point, Healy said, he was thrown on the ground, handcuffed and maced by the arresting officer. Healy said when his wife reached down to retrieve his glasses, which had fallen off, she was maced as well. Police would not comment on Healy's version of events nor would they elaborate on the initial incident that they responded to. Hubert Cutolo, an attorney from Colts Neck who was at the bar at the time and said he saw the incident, told essentially the same story Healy did. ?It was uncalled for," Cutolo said of the police response. "They weren?t causing any problems. It was completely inapproriate.? Barry said acting Deputy Police Chief Leonard W. Guida came into the bar today to apologize for the incident but he could not be reached to confirm that. When asked whether that was true, a spokesman for the department, Police Sgt. Neil Scully, said: "I have no knowledge of that whatsoever." Michaelangleo Conte and Jack Herman *********************************************** Based on last night APP report I can see why we would assume and now after reading the above link I want to see what the real truth is. I'm not defending him nor judging him, I agree, anyone with diabetes should never drink it?s a death wish but, I think we should wait and see what the real story is here before jumping to conclusions.

NOT FINAL, YET
Hoboken school board, budget, still undecided Thursday, April 20, 2006 By KEN THORBOURNE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Absentee ballots proved the difference for a Jersey City school board candidate in Tuesday's election. And still-uncounted votes recorded on a cartridge from an electronic voting machine - currently under lock and key in a Jersey City warehouse - are likely to determine if a proposed $32.2 million tax levy passes in Hoboken. These votes could also change the outcome for the board candidates as well. In Jersey City, former school board member Edward Cheatam pulled ahead of first-time candidate Michael Esposito yesterday when 217 absentee ballots were added to his machine ballot totals. Esposito received only 87 absentee ballots. When the polls closed Tuesday night Esposito, former chairman of the city's Rent Leveling Board, was ahead. But with all the votes counted, Cheatam had 1,040 to Esposito's 999. "It feels very good," Cheatam said. "Absentee ballots are a big part of every school board election, especially for teachers who might be out of town." Cheatam, Hudson County's affirmative action officer, was endorsed by the teachers' union. School board chairman William DeRosa and former mayor Anthony Cucci were also re-elected. With absentee votes counted in Hoboken, a school tax levy question was ahead 1,085 to 1,074 votes, according to Hudson County Clerk Javier Incl?n. But that 11-vote difference could be washed away once a cartridge mistakenly left in a voting machine is recovered. The missing cartridge is from a district with 765 registered voters, Incl?n said. Those votes may also decide which three candidates gain seats on the nine-member board. With 35 of 36 precincts counted yesterday, newcomers Theresa Minutillo and Anthony Louis Romano Jr., and incumbent Frank Raia, led with 1,629, 1,619, and 1,614 votes, respectively. Fourth-place finisher Wanda Santana-Alicea, an incumbent, has 1,507 votes. Incl?n said he plans to seek a court order today to open the machine and have the votes counted by tomorrow.
