JCMC is the closest trauma center so it's possible they were brought there and treated, scanned, or observed in some regard, but were not critical. Its unlikely anyone who had more info would chime in since fear of violating HIPAA etc.

It's sad, I just did a project for a course I'm taking and did a community health needs assessment that was entirely about the need for pedestrian safety...

There were no critical trauma admissions at JCMC last night.

I used to work in music so have lots of friends still working in the industry. No one I know went - or even talked about it. I didn't know about it until the day it went south.

I would recommend switching to the SI ferry option if you can.

99% sure there is no tracking for this one. best way to spot him is tell him where you will be, what side of the street, and for you to just estimate his pace and keep an eye out. i have had no problem seeing friends who ran on this course because the runners were spaced out enough.

Anyone have updated info on swim lessons for adults?

I saw that Pershing Field pool has lessons for adults, but the JC rec page has no info about how to register for them.

I took lessons as a kid, but would like to add swimming as a crosstraining activity and don't think my skills are up to snuff to make that happen yet.

Thanks!

Re: Jersey City Medical Center Medical Bill

Sorry to hear about your experience. Healthcare bills suck.

My experience was a bit different but I had some radiology tests that I felt the costs were lied to me about - I wrote a letter explaining my situation (at the time I was a college student, limited income) and my bills were reduced.

It takes some effort but it is worth a try. Good luck.

Not to pile on but for any other readers I want to emphasize not going to the emergency department for similar reasons. Jersey City Medical Center is also a trauma center so it is important for them to be able to concentrate staff into those critical patients and emergencies when they happen.

It is indeed flu season but the ER can do little to make you not feel horrible. The flu just doesn't feel good! See your primary for a Tamiflu script and ride it out at home with some fluids and tylenol and save yourself an expensive bill.

thank you for understanding that we don't want the trouble of setting up uber rides for a bunch of iphone-illiterate parents while we're busy doing other things :)

will look into your suggestion, thank you!

Hi JC fam,
I am looking for recommendations for a car service to shuttle two sets of parents from two locations in DTJC to our wedding in Brooklyn. Google and Yelp reviews have been pretty inconclusive. A clean/modern/new SUV would do the trick.

Thanks!

I can't comment on much else but for the niche crowd: Atlas has English Premier League soccer games on Saturdays and Sundays (with sound!)

Anyway, I'm not really a fan of Lyft and Uber seems to be surging at times I need it or just generally expensive. My friend turned me on to Gett, a totally similar app except it gives you a flat rate. The promo code helps a lot - I took a late night ride from Ridgewood Queens to Downtown for $37.

http://invite.gett.com/code/GTXSRHD
Have you tried Gett yet? If not, sign up today and get up to $50
off your future rides with my code GTXSRHD. Download the app here: http://invite.gett.com/code/GTXSRHD and enjoy $5 off your next 10 rides!

I got a taco at some takeaway joint in the East Village last year and the guy yelled "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuu!!!!!!" as I walked away down the block for not tipping him.

I should mention that service was SLOW, he was making weird vomit burp noises the entire time and I was nothing but friendly towards him.

Come on?

There are plenty of byob restaurants still in business after many years in JC and Hoboken... sad truth is they lost their heart and desire to keep the business going. Nothing wrong with that, but blaming customer tastes and the cost of labor when you have a culinary school in J Sq seem slightly self serving, if you excuse the pun.

just wondering what byobs are left? abbondonza, madame claude. what else? plenty seems like a big word, most of my favs went the way of the license. (still upset about honshu's move)

My water was off-color yesterday near VVP. I only noticed because I was filling a large bucket, when I looked at a a small glass or just ran the faucet it was impossible to see.

i'm bummed if you towed these poor people - you put up signs on saturday for a sunday move? i never look at my car over the weekend after i park on friday. my friend had his car towed for the same reason - signs placed over the weekend are pretty unfair!

received a baby shower invite yesterday... a week later than everyone else and the envelope already open.

forever infuriated at the amount of mail i've had stolen/missing in this town. i tell people not to send me things at my address whenever possible, but when someone does, damn, does every card have to show up already open or not at all?

always check that a food pantry will accept baby food before dropping it off. i used to volunteer at a food pantry in monmouth county and we had to throw away all baby food no matter what - the philosophy being babies are a high risk population and it's risky to feed a baby something without knowing where it came from.

Re: Visitors Plummet J.C. Victim

was wondering if any news would surface on this - received this email first thing friday morning from a friend of a friend:

"Last night was horrific. I was walking home from Grove St, minding my own business. I heard one foot step behind me and slam. I was cracked in the back of the head with a sock filled with batteries. I turned around in complete shock and the girl who swung the sock was now waving it above her head like a lasso and her and the 2 dudes she was with started chasing me. I ran thru Grand St, screaming, running in a zigzag pattern, not knowing if they had guns, etc. I finally made it back to my apartment and fell thru the door.

We called the cops. They came over for a statement... and while I was talking, they got a call that they had caught the ppl who fit my description. Apparently they hit a guy in the back of the head with a metal pipe 15 minutes after me and he was being rushed to the hospital. I went down to the location in the back of a cop car and identified the one girl. Sat in the police station for 2 hours giving statements, recordings, etc.

Unfortunately all the kids were 16-17 yrs old, meaning they cannot be held as adults. That's why this "knock out game" continues, bc these kids are just released after assaulting people.
""game" played by teens in which they find a person walking alone and try to knock out the unsuspecting person with a single blow.

I learned a few things, if nothing else
1.) Always take cabs home. Always.
2.) I'm really fast when I need to be. I mean, I out ran 3 kids after eating DinoBBQ
3.) Be alert when walking around
4.) Try to always have a buddy
5.) Advil is hardly a pain reliever... or maybe "getting hit in the head with batteries" isn't one of the ailments it cures."

warm weather brings more crime! don't make yourself a target.

i just wouldn't risk it. garden apartments can flood for more reasons than just big storms. when i lived in a garden apartment on 2nd st, a water main broke and gave us a foot of water and mud over the weekend when no one was home. never again.
