I for one welcome our new bro overlords.
The replacement of sorry discount stores (that none of the hipsters shrieking about this bar ever went to) with places for wealthier people and/or "out of towners" helps our property values. Here is a newsflash, there's a lot of people under 35 here in Jersey City like myself who are not looking for an organic emporium selling $10 coffee or a hipster dive with $8 PBR, but rather a normal sports bar. This demographic is increasing. If the hipsters don't get all the L train refugees here, and they probably won't, those taking issue best make their way up to Heights, the dollar store capital of NJ. Until the Hoboken people start moving up there, and then what? Mayor Fulop ought to get on this. Instead a burkini ban, maybe a tank top ban?

I never had to have FIOS come out, needed Comcast mutliple times and then they tried to tell me they wouldn't reimburse me despite their promises otherwise.

Some hipsters in JC don't realize the parallels between themselves and "bros" in Hoboken. They are basically the same people, maybe a different kind of music and dress, but their superiority complex is exactly the same.
Both DTJC and Hoboken have high prices, stroller mafias, cranky old timers who hate anyone under 40...the main difference is IMO DTJC has a few less gentrified blocks than Hoboken. Hoboken has the whole stretch by the projects, but DTJC has random interspersions of less-redone buildings west of Jersey Ave. Otherwise they are basically the same. I eagerly wait the hipster responses mentioning fraternities and the security they feel from the remaining dollar stores.

- 4 Billion Terminal- YES we can afford - Scheme to shut down Fort Lee for several days - YES we can afford - Convince United to send flights to chairman's summer home- YES we can afford - Hundreds of millions on redoing Harrison station- YES we can afford - Service more than every 15 minutes on the weekend- HELL NO WE CANNOT AFFORD OMG!!! The difference is the "Walk through." I never saw a Checkers or Sonic with a walk through- it's more a walk up.
The big change for those in the neighborhood is could not get BK late hours without a car. The McDonalds you can. This is another solution to the minimal drunk food in the area.

The rumor I heard is an Eataly type place (which would be super popular).
That building is no further from Newport or Hoboken PATH than many other spots in DTJC or Hoboken that have developed. Also, the state is willing to add the HBLR at 18th Street, but has no funds. JC is trying to get developers to build it, but they are working on towers on the surrounding plots, not Lackawanna. You can see that in the city's plans.

NJT has approved a new light rail station on 18th Street between Jersey and Grove. They are trying to get a developer to pay for it in exchange for building some towers.
The city has lots of plans for that area. I agree there should be a pedestrian overpass on Marin and Jersey if not Manila as well. Hoboken is also building a new walking path along Observer, and they have plans for towers on that stretch. I love living in the area- best of JC and Hoboken, easy walk to PATH and bus.

The association there is suing Toll, so be on the lookout in terms of maintenance.
However, it is not a no man's land. It is a 15 minute walk to Washington St in Hoboken and walking distance to Newport. Both Observer Highway and the area on 18th street are in redevelopment- both JC and Hoboken have made plans public and you can see Observer is under construction. Grove Street in that area has not flooded in a few years now. Whatever remediation they did in Hoboken seems to have helped. Also I live very close to 700 and never hear the train...you may hear the horn which I used to hear on Manila and 10th.

There's plans for a lot of things. That doesn't mean they're happening around the corner.
West side Hoboken is way cheaper than eastern blocks- because those are closer to the PATH, ferry and further from the projects. Also Uber has all kinds of upcharges and is not always reliable. If it's not about the PATH then why not BL or Greenville they are even cheaper than the suburbs! The neighborhoods that have gentrified always have the 24-7 access. Brooklyn and Queens are the evidence. And, you can define "near" however you wish but the west side of Hoboken generally west of Madison is considered way less desirable and that is part because of the projects over there.

I'm not one to usually agree with Yvonne...but
I would say that Maxwell's left Hoboken because of parking. Plenty of people in JC have visitors from the suburbs, and plenty of our businesses do and would like to. A couple from Millburn or Chatham wants to blow $500 on a DTJC dinner, should they have no place to park? I think we could use a municipal deck like Hoboken has. Not just a lot.

The "overcrowding" of PATH is a riduculous assertion. We live in the largest metro area in the US with about 23-24M people and one of the largest in the world. You don't move here to ride the train solo.
The PATH is no more crowded than the subway. Young people are the ones moving in and they want to be able to come back from the city late at night. If the only option is a bus stopping at 1 or a $100 cab than the suburbs become more realistic- and cheaper. And the western part of Hoboken where the elevator stops is right there the projects there. That's the truth, there is no real way to spin it and I know people that have been mugged there. OTOH JSQ has 24-7 transportation via two PATH lines, and a bus terminal, is just as cheap and doesn't require a detour through a not so great area.

There is a difference between hipsters and large scale development.
Harrison has a lot more large scale development than the Heights. The Heights is changing but certainly lack of 24/7 transportation is a problem. Also, where the elevator leaves you in Hoboken is basically the projects and far from most of the amenities, nevermind the PATH station. There also a lot of blocks that have not changed at all. There is a reason why developers are taking a lot more interest in JSQ than BL.

The panel was supposed to examine corruption. Which costs way more than 10M a year. But in typical Christie and Port Authority fashion, the Port Authority was used as a revenge mechanism against the people who dared to oppose the governor. BTW, speaking of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones was just awarded a Port Authority concession, right between Christie being in the owner's booth. What a coincidence. Cuomo does not owe anything to NJ.
OTOH, Christie answers to NJ residents- the ones that will see property values plummet, the ones that won't be able to get to work... Republicans are the party of business, yet hotels, bar, and restaurant owners, nevermind their BFF banks, will see a severe hit if this were to come to pass. The PA can't afford 10M/year to keep PATH open at night, but can afford 6M to study a link to the airport...yet those people better not fly in between 1 and 5AM or it's SOS!!! Nevermind the Harrison improvement... Harrison gets a new station, but I'm sure it's pure coincidence that Hoboken and Jersey City get the shaft. Not like those two mayors were splashed over national news because they had the gall to stand up to Christie. Not to mention overtime at the PA is spiraling and they admitted to losing several million they can't find. But good ol Christie has a solution! Monroe isn't responding to what Christie is doing because like all Christie employees, it's Christie over NJ residents and their needs. Hopefully he is indicted before this is put through. He is everything wrong with politics in this country.

A few years ago, I was given a totally BS ticket for parking in area where it supposedly banned, despite zero signage or marking. I tried to fight it by mail, sent a ton of pictures showing the curb had no markings nor sign.
Then I got a notice saying I was in default- the city ruled against me without even notifying me. That's when I decided to rent a spot. It's typical of this board to rage against drivers. I didn't do anything wrong, but had to pay the city because it 1) either knowingly defrauds its citizens or 2) its employees are too lazy to do a good job. The reason the city is giving more tickets is because they're worried snow will prevent them from doing so in the next two months. It's all about money. Safety? Lol.

Pretty sure the only one downtown was at 18th and Coles...
Which is probably the least "walked" lighted intersection downtown- especially considering the camera predated Cast Iron. So I'm sure the camera is all about pedestrians- and not about nailing out of towners coming to and from Hoboken, right? It's clear that the "pedestrians" in favor of cameras 1) don't drive a car 2) don't read to understand the study showing they are a danger. How about this. Let's put cameras at intersections where people are crossing, and then, even when they cross safely, give them jaywalking tickets. Then when they complain let's say it's for safety. Would be fair, no?

Plenty of people in DTJC do their shopping in the city or burbs. I saw people in my building with Wegman's bags, and the closest one is Woodbridge, which isn't very close at all.
The problem is not limited to the poorer parts of the city. For the amount of population and wealth in DTJC, the supermarket choices are not great either.

LOL yeah the poor "red" parts of NJ- which are those by the way? Ocean County? A few towns in the Pine Barrens? Perhaps you didn't notice, because you're a flamer that doesn't live here, but 07302 and 07310 have some of the highest average incomes in NJ, and Ward E voted 80% for Obama in 2012.
And lol, Christie raised taxes when he signed off on the PATH fare and toll increase...he lowered the state credit rating but managed to find millions for phony investigations and to make Booker not run on the same day as him. Not to mention how our recovery lags behind all the neighboring states with Democratic governors, who focus on governing their states, not yelling at teachers and campaiging in New Hampshire.

Shop Rite is an improvement over your typical NY grocery store (like a Gristedes) in many ways...particularly price and selection.
Shop Rite's demographics will change if the parking is not free- but they won't change completely. A&P has free parking, and you can breathe and shop comfortably there. It's all about the HBLR access, IMO, that brings non-downtowners in.
