1) The TopicOptions are for the Webmaster, so they should not be visible to the user. I'll make sure that it will not be visible anymore for the user.

2) The View mode works for me, i.e. if the current sorting is "Newest First", and I press the Oldest First, it will get sorted by "Oldest First". Are you seeing something else?

Jersey City honors late Heights Councilman Michael Yun a year after his death

Updated 4:26 PM; Today 4:26 PM By Joshua Rosario | The Jersey Journal

At one of his last City Council meetings, the late Councilman Michael Yun was pushing for more than 75 units of 24/7 on-site security personnel for senior citizen housing and housing for the disabled.

Jersey City Makes Top 5 Most Expensive Places to Rent in the US
Home away from home
Home away from home

The general rule to remember when renting is that you pay for location. If a place is highly populated due to its atmosphere and nearby attractions, demand for it is going to be high. When something is in high demand, the price to live there increases, and Jersey City is no exception. Which is why Howmuch.net has recently named Jersey City among the top five most expensive places to rent an apartment in the country.

Ask anyone what they love about Jersey City and they’ll rattle off a list that seems never-ending. Bars, restaurants, and the stunning views will definitely be included. It is home to some of New Jersey’s most notable places and busiest attractions that add to its exciting ambiance. With every turn, Jersey City’s bright lights lead you to a new adventure. What isn’t so fun is how much it costs to live there. Let’s talk about what led Jersey City to rank as the fifth most expensive city in the country to rent.

The Man who Conquered Smoke, Fire and 25,000 Barrels of Toxic Waste

On December 3, Mayor Steven Fulop, local officials, and representatives of environmental groups gathered on a windswept field underneath the Pulaski Skyway to announce the construction of Skyway Park, a thirty-two acre park along the Hackensack River on the former site of the notorious PJP Landfill. Standing quietly among the assembled audience was Mario Verdibello.

Re: Editorial: Is Anyone Home at 911?

I wonder (hope) these incidents were bad coincidences. We rely on emergency responders.

I've had to call 911 on numerous occasions in the Heights over 20 years for both crime and medical incidents. Fortunately I've always had the police or the paramedics show up within 10 minutes (max) of calling. When the system works it's truly life saving.

Unless the city government rewrites its rent control laws and allows tax pass alongs, this means nothing. No renter will pay this addition and no affordable housing tenant will pay this either. It is just another tax on the small homeowner.

Re: Advice for dealing with contractors, permitting and inspections

We may need to slightly expand the closet from the front, but we don't need to knock down a wall. I don't think we will be touching anything structural. We will need to take up a portion of the kitchen floor to run the pipes. Paying in thirds is a good tip. Thanks.

Are you knocking down a wall? If you do then I would say yes because you need support beams. If not, I would trust the person doing the work. Spell everything out in the agreement. And pay in thirds. One third up front, one third with half done and the last payment when finished. If this room is near a bedroom make sure your contractor puts in soundproofing in.

Advice for dealing with contractors, permitting and inspections
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I'm looking for any tips/advice on doing a small renovation project properly (everyone licensed, getting permits for everything). I'm getting so much conflicting information (not to mention all over the place bids) from different contractors.

The project is to run water/electrical to a closet behind the kitchen in order to install a washer and dryer. I am not sure if I need an architect as I have been told yes from one contractor, but the other contractors have not mentioned using an architect at all.

I was also told that the building as it is is not zoned for a "laundry room" and that the architect would need to apply for that change. I was not aware of this process and I'm not sure if that is the same as getting the permits or a whole separate thing?

If anyone has any advice or experience with this process I would appreciate any info. Thanks!

Re: Study: More People are Leaving Jersey City
Home away from home
Home away from home

Decided to pop by JCList to see what was up, saw a thread about an interested topic and was immediately reminded of why I stopped coming here, which is the incessant whining of the resident right-wingers and their uncanny ability to make everything a political bitchfest.

This is an interesting topic and an interesting study, but people aren't moving out of Jersey City because they're fleeing progressivism for red states because they want to not wear masks and because AOC is scaring them off and blah blah blah blah... Jesus. The damn article even lists the reasons people gave, and your conservative persecution complex doesn't even make the cut (or did it and they're just covering it up because of a liberal conspiracy funded by George Soros ???)

Quote:

A quarter (25%) of Americans who moved in 2020 did it because of the pandemic
Around 35% of COVID-forced moves were out of financial hardship
Nearly one-third of those who moved because of COVID did so to look after family
A total of 36% of respondents moved to somewhere where they felt safer, i.e., somewhere with fewer COVID-19 cases, or more restrictions
35% were forced to move due to loss of job or income due to COVID-19
31% moved to either shelter-in-place with family or to take care of family members
28% moved because they started working from home and no longer had to live close to work

Big shocker, people are moving out of expensive cities because they're broke or because they can do virtual commutes, and looking for cheaper housing. Anyway, just had to chime in. Gonna leave again, you guys make this place miserable. Try to find some joy in your lives instead of seeking out a perpetual endorphine rush from making yourself angry about everything.
