I'm originally from Sayreville so am familiar with all the guys responsible for the skatepark there. It took mostly a lot of lobbying by Troy (part owner of NJ Skateshop - www.njskateshop.com) to get the money for the park, and to get the park done right. If enough people in JC got together to really push for this, show up at council meetings, etc, then it may get done. It took some time though.

Pictures of Sayreville Skatepark

If any of you aren't that familiar with Jersey, it is easy to get there. NJTP south to Exit 11 .. Take GSP to Sayreville exit (after toll booth). Make left at stop sign. Right at light onto Washington Road. Go for about two miles. You will see John F Kennedy Park (Kennedy Park by locals) on the right after the ShopRite center. Takes about 30 minutes if you drive like me. =]

A park at Enos Jones park would be great. But only if it is done right. If it is designed in the same fashion as the park in Sayerville (all cement w/ a bowl and street course) then I and my tax $$'s are all for it. If it is made in the vain of the Hoboken park, than it is just a huge waste of money and time. Contact me if this is something that the city would be serious about undertaking and I will put you in contact w/the resources to get it done right.

I think getting a skate park indoors in an abandoned warehouse would work better than outdoors. This prevents the rain or brutal winter days from getting in the way. I'm sure this would be more costly though.

This link has some spots in JC:

Hamilton park will get renovated next year, and the pyrimid will be gone. Skateboarding will likely be very limited in the park, so to compensate for this some of us are pushing for a skatepark in Enos Jones park - the park near White Star with the basketball courts, ball field and hockey skate rink.

Do you think people would USE a skate park in Enos Jones (map), similar to the one in Hoboken? DO most people prefer "found" skate areas in the city instead of something institutionalized like a skate park? We are not trying to limit skating ONLY to the skatepark - not possible, but want to offer a safe alternative.

I see skaters every day over in journal square. They seem to have the run of the place in the afternoon. Just go up the escalators and head past the Duane Reade. You can't miss them.

you won't get hasseled at hamilton on the pyramids. i suggest skating them while you can because there is a rumor that they are coming down next summer when they renovate the park. also if you are looking to skate something fun swing by 7th st between erie and manilla at around 6-7 pm tonight. if your cool my friends and i will take you to the super-mega-secret spot we built this summer. if not we will steal your board.

It's not Jersey City, but they put up a small skate park on the waterfront in Hoboken. It's around 10th street and the river.

Other than that, wasn't there some talk about building something under the turnpike?

Hamilton Park has somet things to skate, but I am not sure if police kick the skaters out of there or not. I don't skate anymore but I remember seeing the cement pyramids in an alien workshop video or something. A lot of the skaters downtown just seem to use curbs or boxes of their own.

Are there any skate parks in Jersey City ? also, there is a empty place in summit avenue up in the heights next to the reservoir.. and i think they should make it for a skate park. its been empty for a long time already.
