Drive through the townships of Wall and Howell in Monmouth County and you see why New Jersey is dubbed the Garden State. You might not consider Jersey City, but it does have some small urban farms. And driving down Rose Avenue in Greenville, you’ll see the newest one.

The quarter-acre plot of land was a lot of overgrown weeds two years ago. But Monica Shaw saw an opportunity to teach city kids and residents that growing vegetables can be done right in their backyards. Or on a common farm.
