When Martin Luther King Jr. visited Jersey City

By Terrence T. McDonald tmcdonald@jjournal.com

The Jersey Journal

"If you can't fly, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl -- but move."

Those were the words of Martin Luther King Jr. as he spoke to a crowd of 2,000 jammed inside the Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion church in Jersey City on March 27, 1968. The speech marked King's second appearance in Jersey City in three years, and his last. Eight days later, the civil rights leader was slain by an assassin's bullet.
