JERSEY CITY -- A 27-year-old man sitting in a car was shot early Sunday morning, officials said.

The shooting was reported at about 1:30 a.m. on Randolph Avenue, city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

The victim, an Orient Avenue resident, suffered a gunshot wound to his back and his injuries were not considered life threatening, Morrill said. Multiple sources said a child was in the car at the time of the shooting.

Photos taken by Jersey Journal freelance photographer Joe Shine show a red car --which appears to have stopped on Communipaw Avenue after the shooting -- with multiple bullet holes. The back window was shattered in the gunfire.

No one was arrested and the shooting remains under investigation.

Man stabbed 8 times, car windows shattered in Jersey City bar fight: cops

By Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal
on February 27, 2017 at 7:38 AM

A 31-year-old man was seriously injured and several cars were damaged when an early morning bar fight spewed into the streets yesterday, police said.

Police were initially called to the intersection near Jordan Avenue and Mercer Street at about 3:30 a.m. because someone was smashing car windows with a baseball bat, according to a police report.

The officers found six cars at the intersection and a large group of people arguing near a social club in the neighborhood, the report states.

The owner of the social club said the victim, a Bartholdi Avenue resident, had an argument with another patron at the bar shortly before police were called.

The suspect hit the victim in the head with a cue ball from the pool table, police said.

Both men were escorted out of the bar. People inside the bar then heard glass shattering and yelling coming from outside.

A witness outside, a 41-year-old man, said the two men were fighting each other in the street and he stepped in to separate them.

One of the men bit the 41-year-old in the cheek and hit him in the head. By the time police had arrived, both men were gone, the report states.

The windows of two cars were smashed in the fight, police said.

Blood stained the furniture and floors inside the club, but police described the scene as being "contaminated" because workers had already begun cleaning the building, the report states.

A short time later, the victim arrived at Jersey City Medical Center with five stab wounds to the back and three stab wounds to his chest.

He was rushed into surgery and was listed in critical condition, police said.
The victim's brother told police the 31-year-old drove to his house on Van Nostrand Avenue after he was stabbed. He then drove his brother to the hospital and police found blood stains in his red truck, the report states.

No arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing. The 41-year-old witness refused medical attention.
