Made it there for the first time today - quite a lot of members considering it was early. Thanks to Michael.

Thank you for the clarification.

Weekend MEMBER ONLY hours began today - 10AM to Noon.
Pool opens to non-members at Noon.

Again, A BIG THANK YOU to Michael Yun, Councilman for Ward D for making sure the hours really happened. Last weekend, he pushed Dept. of Recreation to begin member only hours and checked with them again mid-week when there was still no official word to ensure it was in the works. And he was at the pool this morning before 10AM to make sure it was staffed and open.

I like to give credit where credit is due - If you are a member and want to pass on the thanks, let Michael know at (MYun@jcnj.org).

Pool was GREAT this morning!!

A BIG THANK YOU to Michael Yun, Rich Boggiano, and all members who voiced their dissatisfaction.
Michael Yun addressed the matter with Dept. of Recreation and the Pershing Field Pool should be open to members on weekends between 10AM and Noon, starting next weekend. Hopefully, Recreation will stick to their word -- we'll be watching.
Look forward to seeing you there!

It took a while last year, but we finally won. Hoping by starting earlier, we will get better results quicker. I agree the temperature has been quite variable - cool one day, last weekend was like a bath tub.

Sam:

I hope you prevail. In fact, the summer is the only time that you can really do laps at Pershing Field when the heat is turned off. Otherwise, it's a giant hot tub. In fact, in my twenty years of lap swimming in Jersey City, Pershing field has never been more inhospitable to lap swimming. The pool has been turned in to a personal fief for a few employees. I gave up on it and go to Stevens most of the year and Johnston Ave in the summer.

Good luck.

For many years during the summer, Pershing Field Pool had early weekend swim hours for members from 9AM to Noon. This was well-managed in the past and would allow lap swimmers and others to have a couple of hours in the morning to get a swim in before the pool became very crowded. Beginning last year, this changed. Last summer, it was only after numerous member complaints that the Recreation Department finally caved in and granted us the priviledge of one extra hour (opened at 11AM) and that only began in mid-August when the summer was almost over.

Currently, both the Johnston St. and Pavonia Pools open at 10AM on the weekends, but Pershing Field Pool is still only opening at Noon.

Pershing Field Pool depends on the Recreation Department to fund the couple of measly additional hours we have always had the past. Calls from a couple of members to the Recreations Department have so far been unsuccessful -- so let's deluge them with complaints.

PLEASE CALL, FAX, or EMAIL THE DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION DIRECTOR, Ryan Strother, Tel: (201)547-5003 / 201-547-4537. Fax: (201)547-4586 rstrother@jcnj.org and let them know we want our weekend, member-only hours back. At a minimum, we should have the same weekend hours of Johnston and Pavonia Pools - Why is the Heights being forgotten? For Heights residents, recommend also emailing your City Council Member: Michael Yun (MYun@jcnj.org ) for Ward D and Rich Boggiano (RBoggiano@jcnj.org) for Ward C -- Let them know than the Recreations Department is once again overlooking the Heights.

Your support is appreciated.
