Former Jersey City councilman in bribery scheme wants return to politics

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
on December 08, 2014 at 3:02 AM

JERSEY CITY ? Visitors to City Hall started seeing a familiar face last week: Phil Kenny.

Kenny, 58, spent 98 days representing Ward B on the City Council in 2009 before pleading guilty in the massive 2009 corruption sweep and spending about a year behind bars. But he's been out of prison for more than three years and he's ready for a comeback.

"I got to get back in," he recently told The Jersey Journal.

The former councilman, a Democrat, has a new job with United Water dealing with customers facing tax liens because of unpaid water bills. The company manages the city's water system for the Municipal Utilities Authority.

"It's wonderful," he said of his new gig, which requires his occasional presence in City Hall's first-floor tax office.

"I got to get back in,"

Spoken like a true Jersey City politician. If his job at United Water is so great (as he indicates in the article), why not just be devoted to that full time? Politics just didn't work out for you Phil, get over it.
