Heads-up, commuters! If you're taking the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in Jersey City or Hoboken, you might need to allow for extra travel time.

Service is still suspended between the Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue stations in Jersey City after a sewer line rupture on Thursday.

NJ Transit is providing substitute bus service between the two stations and travelers are advised to allow extra travel time while on the free shuttle.

The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authorities is handling the repair of the sewer line and had expected it to be repaired by yesterday.

"Crews continue to work on the sewer line that ruptured last week and work is expected to be completed by Wednesday night." said Jennifer Morrill.

Also, the elevators at the the 9th Street/Congress Street station in Hoboken, which also serves commuters in the Jersey City Heights, are temporarily out of service, NJ Transit says.

Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal

Service between Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system in Jersey City is still suspended due to last night's sewer line rupture, officials said.

Nancy Snyder, a spokeswoman of NJ Transit, said this morning that substitute bus service is still being provided for Light Rail customers. Snyder added that customers should allow for extra travel time as a result of the disruption.

NJ Transit first posted an alert of the service suspension on its website at 7:32 p.m. yesterday.

Jersey City Public Safety spokeswoman Carly Baldwin said last night that a 52-inch high pressure sewer line ruptured under the Light Rail tracks at Forrest Street and Ocean Avenue.

Additional information on the repair work was not immediately available.
