Better off taking the Path or a bus to JSQ and walking - it's a short walk. For parking - I circle the block and usually manage to find a spot on Jones St. The Bayonne/City Line office is more convenient if you live in Greenville.

I renewed my license last week. In and out at the DMV on Summit Avenue in less than 1/2 an hour. And I was boneheaded enough to forget the card that they sent me in the mail so I had to fill out a new one.

I like the Bayonne DMV at the city line. People seem to start to line up a half hour before it opens so don?t get discouraged if you see a line. When it opens the line moves in quickly and people head to the different stations. Just make sure you ask questions (cop at desk) and read the signs so you don?t waste your time on a line you don?t need to be on. Everyone is nice and they get the job done.

There is as mentioned plenty of parking in the mall lot and you can hit the Dunkin Donuts down the Blvd, or the new pretty cool looking Micky D?s across the street(with double drive thru?s wowee) , or the new mini mart at the Sunoco gas station for food and drink. Good luck.

There are two DMV offices in JC. The one by JSQ does not have its own parking lot, but you can park on the street and there are many meter spots right across from it on Sip Avenue. The second office is located in a dreary strip mall and they do have a parking lot there. My personal advice is to go to the one by JSQ. Nice staff and hardly ever crowded.

Summit Ave is great if you avoid lunch hour and the end of the day. You can print out forms online and arrive with them filled out, IDs in hand, ready to get in line/ get your number (I think it depends on how busy they are.)

Once when I was visiting family in Cape May, NJ (on the off-season), I got my car inspected and license renewed there, super-fast. When you have the time, it's great to do it out of town.

for what it's worth, the Summit Ave DMV we're talking about is in Jersey City, right near the JSQ PATH station.

+1 for Summit Ave. So quick and friendly that you forget you're at a DMV. Go early and you'll be out in under a half hour.

(And they let me retake my photo a couple of times, too, til I got one that's only a little bit unflattering.)

I recommend Bayonne if you can. Easier parking (if you're driving) and nicer clerks, IMHO. Be prepared with lots of extra id - if you're a married person, you'll have to bring your marriage license if you had a name change. Look at the points list on the website here:

Definitely the office on Summit! Close to mass transit (PATH/JSQ) and the staff is pleasant and the wait times very short. I go there for anything related to registrations/licenses and I am always impressed by how painless it is every time.

I've gone twice to the office on Summit in the early morning, and on both occasions I was was out of there like 20 minutes later.

Thanks for the info. I'd love to do it online or by mail, but I just bought a car and need to do it ASAP to finalize the sale. I'd rather pay NJ tax than NY.

I had to do this a few years ago, and I remember doing it all online. They'll mail you stickers for the back of your driver's license. You don't have to go in physically until the license is up for renewal. http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/

Go to the one at the Bayonne/JC Line.

My last few visits to the city line DMV (border of Bayonne and JC) have been surprisingly quick and efficient. I've gone around 3:30 - 4 and have gotten in and out without issue. Not sure if you own a car, if not it might be worth an Uber ride.

Unless your license is expired, I don't think you need to go there physically to change the address.

JSQ is a good place to go (I would boycott the Bayonne one altogether!). The few times I have been there, the service has been very quick and pain free. I suggest going after lunch between 3 and 5. That has always worked for me. Good luck!

I had to do the same thing. My advice to you is get there early and give yourself plenty of time. I was actually the last person called, and I had been waiting for over two hours. The people who still had numbers behind me were turned away, and they had been waiting about the same amount of time. People were pissed! Go there EARLY!
