Honestly street parking is not that hard to find, it may be an occasional annoyance at 1 AM, but the area is generally safe enough that I wouldn't be worried about walking a few blocks at night right near grove. As long as you are alert and stay on well lit main streets. I have been lucky to never have an issue in downtown JC at any hour since moving here 2.5 years ago (but I am used to an urban setting - work in Newark, sometimes at night - and am very very vigilant, not that it would prevent someone determined to commit a crime, but I think it helps).

If you can't find a lot before moving I wouldn't let that deter you. Once you are here "on the ground" there are lots of small privately operated lots you can talk to.

Yes. We park our car there and we don't live in the building. However you won't be entitled to the discounted rate if you rent in building.

The public can park at 50 Columbus. 24-hour access, doesn't flood if you park on second level and above and only two blocks from Grove Street.

the dilemma.

i have fallen in love with downtown jc, particularly the grove path area. unfortunately, i own a car and use it daily to commute to central jersey for work, and therefore would be needing access to nearby parking. plus, i would be coming home from work every day around 1am, so i would prefer a short walk from my car to my hypothetical apartment.

it getting a nearby parking space impossible? i was able to contact one privately owned parking lot and they said that there were no residential spots available and that they do not accept payment ahead of time to reserve. i had seen a number of smaller monthly lots, but have been unable to contact any of them (like the one on columbus that never seems to have staff when i visit).

i had called hoboken to see if they had parking spots in their lots, and they have plenty! for a little while, i had shifted my focus to hoboken, even though i really hate the fratty feel to it.

maybe i'm wrong, but it seems that the downtown grove area isnt equipped to house cars for residents. (unlike hoboken, which has several garages).

any thoughts, jc'ers?
