The Hudson County Board of Freeholders has taken the first steps toward extending Central Avenue between Newark and Hoboken avenues in Jersey City.

Central Avenue currently deadends at Newark Avenue near the Hudson County Administration Building, and picks up again one block north at Hoboken Avenue. The project will not start "anytime soon," according to a county official.

The freeholders by a vote of 8-0 passed a resolution at their regular meeting yesterday that allows Hudson County to pursue and negotiate for property it would need to purchase to connect the non-contiguous portions of Central Avenue. Chairman Eliu Rivera was absent.
