The owner of a Central Avenue newsstand has announced he plans to run for the Ward D City Council seat in Jersey City next year, saying he wants to bring ?the people?s voice? to the nine-member body.
Yun, 57, is the president of the Central Avenue Special Improvement District, and was last in the headlines when he protested a move by the Red & Tan bus company to discontinue its line running up Central Avenue.
A Korean-born businessman who became a naturalized American citizen in 1984, Yun has owned and operated Garden State News on Central Avenue with his wife for 30 years. He recently moved back to Jersey City in March after living in Nutley.
?Fair and tough leadership ? that?s what we?re going to bring,? he told The Jersey Journal.
Ward D, which encompasses The Heights, has been represented by Councilman Bill Gaughan for nearly 20 years. Asked if he was unhappy with Gaughan?s tenure, Yun said Gaughan ?did what he had to do? for decades.
?Things change a lot,? Yun said. ?People are looking for new leadership.?Resized Imagehttp://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... entral_avenue_newsst.html
