Jersey City police say two men are arrested before they can open either of two cash registers stolen from Downtown restaurant

By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal

Cops collared two luckless burglars trying to pry open one of two cash registers reported stolen from a Downtown Jersey City restaurant, police reports said.

Police arrested Enrique Milian, 58, of 51st Street in West New York, and Jorge Velez, 42, of Summit Avenue in Jersey City, and charged them with burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools, police said.

Police went to the Embankment Restaurant at 234 10th St. at 11:46 p.m. Sunday and met with a employee who said she responded to the burglar alarm and found the front door of the restaurant open, reports said.

She told cops she saw two men leave the restaurant and drive away in a pickup truck that was parked outside, reports said.

Police found the pickup truck parked on Grove Street between 14th and 15th streets and saw Velez using a screwdriver to try and break open a cash register Milian was holding, reports said.
