Apartment houses in the city have always posed problems. Too many people living under the same roof with different ideas in these towering or wide-bodied structures can cause a catastrophe in an emergency. Especially when you have combination of absentee and resident homeowners there is bound to be carelessness. Being prepared helps prevent any more incidents to compound an existing situation.

does the city consider your building a high rise? (7 stories or taller, i think) I know high rises are required to have fire marshals on every floor and evacuation plans and have monthly tests. it is most likely something to do with how the building is classified with the city. The fire inspectors are pretty reasonable and approachable. Call their office on Manilla and ask them to clarify.

I live in the Canco Lofts (after 15 years prior in JC) and have just been told JCFD has asked us to have a fire drill.
Is this in any way normal? I don't recall ever living anywhere that the local fire department requested a fire drill be held at. Any other JC locals experience this? I'm thinking it's because the overall complex is still split between commercial and residential (on all floors, not just the ground level), but it sounds fishy.
