The glow down
The man who created J.Lo?s look dishes his (and her!) secrets

NEW YORK POST

He?s been making Jennifer Lopez glow longer than Marc Anthony has. And in the decade he?s spent as her No. 1 makeup man, he?s gotten to know every curve on her body. Plus, he?s got all those nude photos . . . of her lovely face, sans makeup.

Note: We saw them. She?s still gorgeous. It?s painful. They?re part of his private stash and sorry guys, he?s not sharing.

For Scott Barnes, Jennifer Lopez isn?t just his most famous client ? she?s his friend and carpool buddy. His place in her life was solidified 10 years ago, when Barnes was scheduled to do her makeup at an InStyle magazine photo shoot. She walked in wearing head-to-toe blue and aviator sunglasses, with her hair pulled back. He remembers her being well-moisturized, beautiful, ?blingy gold? and ?a little tan with some self-tanner on.? He also remembers her makeup ? hard, heavily contoured and ?just too much.?

?I look at a woman like a man looks at a woman ? as opposed to a gay looking at a woman ? and I think that?s the difference,? says Barnes, who after being married to a woman for 10 years is now divorced and lives with his partner, Nick, in a posh Jersey City apartment.

?When I started creating the J.Lo glow, I was like, ?What would be desirable for men?? Men don?t really like kissing women with lipstick on ? they get grossed out by it, especially reds. So I came up with a flesh palette that was glowy.?

Barnes painted her face in the way he was trained as a classical fine arts painter at Parsons School of Design, layering different hues of bronzer. Needing a quicker fix, Barnes set to work himself, blending self-tanner, shimmer and pigment in a blender in his kitchen. The result was Body Bling, the creamy treatment he practically bathes her in. He says he rubs it in all over, always in a circular motion, to soften her face and define her body ? and created the beginnings of the makeup trend that changed the decade: the J.Lo glow.

Barnes? latest project is his first book, ?About Face? ($25 at scottbarnes.com), in which he transforms real women of all races, ages and shapes into their most gorgeous selves. Lopez, who will star this spring in her latest flick, ?Plan B,? is his most famous face, but almost everyone inside is a regular girl. He dishes on his tips, tools and everything from how to apply blush to warming up your eyelash curler.
?I learned from Jennifer that you have to be comfortable because you?re not always going to be perfect. But you always have to embrace yourself,? he says.

?If you think you?re beautiful, you will become beautiful. There?s a spiritual connection between beauty and yourself ? they?re not separate things.?
