Hmmm. Newark man in Jersey City with $12,359 Cash (nearly 500 bills, including 209 singles and 83 hundreds) was taken to the hospital by a friend from Irvington who happened to be driving by.
When was the last time someone got shot for no reason for being the victim of a carjacking. Why so much cash on him. Either he was a target who was being followed, which it sounds more likely to me or he attempted to fight back.

Big bucks stop bullet in carjack

The value of U.S. currency might be dropping around the world, but it's sky high for a victim of a Jersey City carjacking.

Police said a wad of cash totaling $12,359 spared a 26-year-old Newark man a bullet in the leg when his car was taken from him Tuesday night at 10:11 p.m. at Warner and Rutgers avenues.

The dense roll of bills in the man's pants pocket - which totaled nearly 500 bills, including 209 singles and 83 hundreds - absorbed the bullet, police said.

Unfortunately, the man was also shot in the shoulder and had to be taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.

At the hospital, police found the bullet still in the victim's pocket and a bullet hole in many of the bills, reports said. Cops would not say why the man had such a high amount of money on him at the time.

While being treated Tuesday night for the wound, which isn't considered life-threatening, the victim said he was sitting in a 1998 Dodge Durango belonging to a Bloomfield resident when two men opened the front doors and opened fire, reports said.

He said he fell out of the SUV and his attackers got in and drove away, reports said. The man said he could not identify them.

When police arrived they found two cell phones and a spent shell on the street, as well as a trail of blood leading to a front door that was smeared with blood, reports said.

The Newark man was taken to the hospital by a friend from Irvington who happened to be driving by, reports said.

Police have put out a general alert for the stolen Durango, and say the investigation is ongoing.
