Stolen briefcase held cash

Tuesday, January 08, 2008

The owner of a Jersey City drugstore had a briefcase holding thousands of dollars ripped from his hands Friday evening on Bright Street by a man who punched him in the head, police reports said.

The 61-year-old victim, the owner of Carry Drugs on Bright Street, told police he had just closed his store and was walking through a Bright Street parking lot, between Varick Street and Jersey Avenue, at about 6 p.m. when a man punched him from behind and took the briefcase, which held three personal checks and at least $3,000 in cash, reports said.

The robber, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a green Army jacket, then fled east on Bright Street, police said.
