We walked by BonChon on Newark Ave...in the former Atomic Wings space. Looked good and the menu seemed to have more items than the 32nd St. one!

BonChon is amazing, please support this business so it sticks around longer than the Atomic Wings did. I would highly recommend.

Not only do I hope this place stays open because of the food, but also because, like the predecessor of its space, the storefront looks so much better for Newark Avenue.

I'm no urban planner but I think Newark Avenue is a perfect textbook example of urban blight with all of its extremely antiquated storefronts up and down the street. Only BonChon, the Greek restaurant and maybe the now closed Washington Mutual branch are an exception to what I see on that street (that Italian place in the middle of the street looks okay too I guess). When I spoke to one of the family owners, she said that while the city has been very supportive of them getting to open, she ran into numerous issues with the Buildings Department (surprise, surprise).

I have no ownership interest in any business on Newark Avenue but I am so sick of the Buildings Department putting up roadblocks to the people and businesses who are doing things to improve this city and get rid of the antiquated storefronts. If the mayor's office truly cared about this, they would do something about the Buildings Department. It is just appalling and seems to be stifling all the progress the city could make.

Just walked by and noticed a nice little crowd. Nice sight to see...

Has anyone had a chance to sample it yet?

Most addictive fried chicken ever! It is really popular in K-town in NYC - see article that really catapulted it to fame!

So glad to have something like this here on Newark Ave!

We ate there yesterday. It was very busy and orders took a long time, but the chicken was very good. Both the Spicy and the Garlic/Soy were very good. We had the boneless breast pieces. I wasn't a fan of the kimchi cole slaw, but next time I want to try the other side dishes.

Went there yesterday w/ the hubby. It's awesome and I am thrilled to have a new business on Newark.

Korean Fried Chicken def takes a bit of time - they do each to order so most orders take 20-30 minutes to fill - I would pick up a menu and either call ahead if you want to pick it up or eat there or just have it delivered.

Wanted to like this place but I delivery last night was over 2 hours. The nice lady on the phone said 45 -50 mins and 2 hours later after I called 6 times the food showed up ICE COLD. They wouldn't even pick up the phone so I could complain. I want this place to succeed and I know that they just opened but 2 hours and ICE COLD food is pretty inexcusable.

Ordered from there last night expecting it to take a really long time and ended up being about 40 minutes which is fine by me. While it wasn't ice cold, it wasn't piping hot either. It sure was tasty though, will definitely be ordering from there again.

I guess I'm not very excited for this being a vegetarian, atomic wings had pretty good veggie chili and quesadillas.

Bon Chon had some veggie choices too. They had vegetable dumplings, some salads, and side dishes. I want to try the dumplings on my next visit.

We should suggest that they make some tofu (with the same flavoring and seasonings as the chicken). Why not?

Had both the Spicy and the Soy wings, both are excellent - really crispy wings, incredibly yummy, although at $19.99 for 20 pieces, they're not cheap. Definitely worth it.

I wouldn't have it delivered esp. it's starting to get cold, the delivery guy is on a bicycle without any protective carrying device on it.

All I wanted to do was try Bon Chon last night. I got there at 9:20pm and it was closed. The hours posted on the door and on the menu says they are open till 10pm.

That make me so mad!

While I am NO fan of the Bldgs. Dept. what people have to understand is that it is not run by the City. The Buildings Department is run by the State, these are employees of the State (HUD) of NJ.

A quirk like having the door open in and not out is a major issue and fire hazard. I am sure that if the Bldg. Dept. put up road blocks it is because it was not up "to code". They don't do it because they feel like it, they have to answer to someone higher up when the stuff hits the fan. So don't be so quick to condemn them in every case. Although I do think that some of the things they require are a "bit much".

Not that the Mayor could do a whole lot about some of these things - - -

their chicken and their dumplings are amazingly crisp, yet light, unlike some other places out there with fried dishes that come out a soggy greasy mess. owners seem like nice people, too!

That's a new one to me - I was more specifically referring to the Office of Construction Code, which does answer the phone as "Buildings Department" and I am certain that Raymond Meyer is a Healy appointee. Furthermore, their website indicates that they are "empowered by the Jersey City municipal code" to administer both state and city regulations. That sounds like a city agency to me.

It's not so much the roadblocks the agency puts up as it is the way it is run that pisses me off. I understand the need for fire and safety regulations and enforcing them.

When I went through the process of getting a building permit for a relatively insignificant project (back porch), there were three phone numbers to call that office: one that was always busy, one that always rang and never got answered and one that went straight into voicemail and never got messages returned. Only recently has their phone system been upgraded somewhat. Furthermore, when I submitted an application for a permit, there was no definitive list of items I had to give them and they don't tell you that you have to go to the zoning office or the multiple inspections a project has to have. I don't have a problem with these requirements, but why can't it be written down somewhere? I could go on some more but I've told this story many times. They are a joke.

I tried the mixed combo of breast and drumsticks. Went in with great expectations and left with mild enthusiasm. The drumsticks were good but not great the breast tasted chewy and not moist. Hopefully it's not standard. Would like to go back and give it a retry. Definitely not Popeye's but better than Atomic Wings.

Just wanted to let you all know that I was just in Bon Chon ordering wings and as I'm paying for my food I see into the kitchen and there is a big tray of cooked chicken just sitting there on the floor, with the cooks walking around it as if it wasn't there. I pointed it out to the manager and she said "Oh they are just transporting it" I said that maybe I would call the health department or post about it online and she said "You need to relax". Now this chicken may taste good, and they may have fancy branding but the bottom line is that this is just another dirty take out place...one that is overpriced. Before everyone keeps hyping this place up they should take a look at what is going on in the kitchen.
