Almost nothing is left of two-story building on Second Street in Downtown Jersey City that suffered a partial collapse around noon on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, while undergoing renovations.

Almost nothing is left of a two-story building in Downtown Jersey City that suffered a partial collapse around noon today while undergoing renovations.

The entire roof and most of the exterior walls of the two-story building are gone, although it's not clear how much of the building was taken down intentionally by workers and how much came down of its own accord.

Firefighters responded to the building on Second Street off Colgate Street on a 12:18 p.m. alarm and quickly closed the block and called workers from Public Service Electric & Gas, Fire Director Armando Roman said.

The fire trucks remained at the scene after 2 p.m. and city building inspectors also responded to determine if the builder had the appropriate permits for the work being done and if the plans were being followed.

The three-unit building was unoccupied and no one was injured in the collapse, Roman said.
