Greenville; Two arrests after shots miss victim in taped incident Wednesday, December 20, 2006 By ALI WINSTON JERSEY JOURNAL
Two men were arrested after a shooting on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was caught on tape, Jersey City police said.
The Police Department's closed-circuit cameras recorded the action Sunday at 4:17 a.m. at the corner of King Drive and Wade Street, reports said. A man with long braids placed a handgun to the head of another man and then fired twice - but somehow missed, police said.
Miraculously unscathed, the victim ran north on King Drive, cops said.
Meanwhile, the alleged shooter - later identified by police as Eric Kowlesar, 26, of Freeman Avenue - handed the gun to Christopher Samuels, 34, of Randolph Avenue. The pair then walked away, but they were soon stopped by cops dispatched by an officer watching the cameras, reports said.
No weapon was found on either man, but inside Kowlesar's 2001 Acura CL, police found a 9mm handgun with a defaced serial number, reports said. The gun had one bullet in the chamber and three in the clip, reports said.
The men were charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges, police said. Samuels, who also was sought on open warrants, faces an additional charge of hindering apprehension after giving a false name to police, reports said.
