Hey xtine,

Can you list the other meals that you've ordered?

Thanks,
Alex

it's almost scary, isn't it? Went there again on Saturday night (actually ate in). Service was great. Entree came out a little quick after apps but that's better than the other way.

Does anyone know if the menu is online somewhere? It's not listed in www.hudsonmenus.com

Thanks!

I second ianmac47's review. We went for dinner last night and while they are still working out the 'just opened' hiccups, this place is definitely worth trying.

Highlights:
*Food was good - tried my favorite Thai dish (my basis for comparison) and they did it well
*Decent wine list and even a specialty drink and martini menu - our martinis were definitely on the strong side but I know they didn't skimp on the alcohol
*Service had some minor hiccups, but you could tell that they were trying really hard to please which I appreciated.
*Decor and ambiance was good - simple and tasteful, though the music did get a little loud as it got later and there were less people in the room - but they quickly fixed that
*Prices matched portions - this was one of the best parts of dinner - we ordered two martinis, an appetizer, soup and two entrees and our meal was $50 before tip. (and I had half of my dinner leftover for lunch today)

I seriously hope that the rest of jclist tries this place with an open mind, because we really enjoyed it and we've been dying for a new Thai place since we moved here 3 yrs ago.

Is there a menu anywhere online? Does this place do anything unusual or just the standard fare? Either way I look forward to trying it.

The "lighter flavor" green curry mentioned above is a good sign - the average mediocre thai place usually makes curries too heavy.

Had take out last night. Spring rolls and Spicy Lemongrass chicken. Both were great, even as take out. Jasmine rice was superb! Asked for extra spicy on the chicken and it WAS! That NEVER happens - I rarely feel the heat.

They do need a bartender as they don't seem to really be familiar with some of the basic cocktails but every one was really really nice. I will definitely be back!

They had some opening night kinks but it seemed to be pretty good. Three different servers tried taking our drink order, but this is better than no one taking your drink order. Also, I ordered Spicey fried shrimp and calamari with a lime sauce, but got fried shrimp and calamari with vegetables. The manager acknowledged the mistake before I took my first bite (which is more than Hard Grove ever does), but I was fine with what they brought me anyway. The Green chicken curry was quite good as well, though a much lighter flavor than I would have expected.

Over all everything ran fairly smoothly. The decor was sparse, but tasteful. The place was completely full with a wait line by the time we left. The one concern I had was that the place was a little loud, in part I think because they have tile floors and nothing to absorb the sound. But there was quite a bit of space between tables so it wasn't as though I was having a conversation with strangers.

Over all, definitely will go back, probably regularly.

Preps to xtine & matchjames - I am so tired of everyone trying to wish any new business into closure before they open. Be thankful some folks are willing to put their dollar bills into new & improved in JC. God knows city hall isn't interested.
Mr Fulop why are SID meetings held on Tuesday mornings?
SID appears to be a club supporting a certain developer & a bar/restaraunt in JC?????

Had the Pad Thai with shrimp (test dish). The place was hopping and it looked nice. They have a full bar and plenty of liquor being served.

The Pad Thai was $10 and it wasn't a huge portion but just enough. The shrimps were large and delicious.

Will try again.

Well, so far, so good. Stopped by on the way home and ordered a Tilapia Panang, basically a fillet in a coconut/curry sauce that balanced spicy and sweet, with peppers, peas and carrots. Very tasty! Large serving ($13) of the fish (no bones to be found), big hunk of rice. Good stuff, I'll be back.

Ska: Cant say for sure, but I peeked in on the way out of Synergy last night and there is a big ol' bar down the right hand side, so I gotta figure they have booze. Good AND bad, right... gotta love BYOB.

WTF are you talking about? Do you need a French Community to have a good French Restaurant? Or a Russian Community to have a good Vodka bar? I don't think so.

of course, it doesnt effect me personally at ALL. I'd just like to see whoever it is making effort to improve my adopted hometown be given at least a CHANCE to prove themselves before they're judged.

and thanks for the backup there xtine.. you're Metropolis music? excellent!

YES we all expect quality and service and value. BUT could we have a LITTLE bit of optimism? To their credit, it sure don't look like a PAYLESS anymore.

I agree 10000%. And yes, it does affect us if people have so little optimism, piglet. It's frustrating and demoralizing as a resident and business owner (by marriage) to feel like people are just waiting for businesses to fail instead of trying to support them. When Metropolis first opened, we actually had people come in and say "I'll come back and shop here if you're still open in 3 months" Thank god there were people who weren't like that but still...

Personally, I'm excited they're open. The place looks great and the prices in the ballpark. I'm going for take-out tonight.

Just an update on this as we have been working with the SID and planning on this Newark avenue business since elected.

We have three new restaurants for the Newark Avenue SID in the very near term two of which will have liquor licenses.

1) The Thai restaurant mentioned in this thread which I can confirm is putting substantial $$ into the space

2) Maggie's restaurant (two doors down from LITM), to which you can see the construction work that is being done inside

3) A restaurant/lounge located near First and Grove, (owner from across the river) - more details down the road.

------------------------------------------------------------

Other things of note:

- Also, I have asked the planning department to begin a redevelopment plan for most of the south side of Newark Avenue in order to create more of a retail friendly streetscape feel on both Christopher Columbus and Newark Avenue.

- We just ordered quite a few new garbage receptacles for Newark Ave to which you will see shortly.

Finally, If you want to get involved you can attend the SID meetings or e-mail me and we will do our best to keep you in the loop

Best regards
Steve

Great, we could really use a good Thai place. I think there's a decent place out in Paulus Hook, but I've never successfully gotten them to deliver.

I think this is the old Payless Shoe storefront. I was parking in front of it way back in May/June when I first noticed it. At that time I saw this Asian man and woman going around the store seemingly thinking of how to arrange/model things. A few days later they posted a note saying a Thai place would be opening soon. They're sure taking their time, it's already been 3-4 months! I haven't peeked inside in months, is there any development?

The new place has building permits displayed out front, I don't think any of the older places had them when they first opened.
It's a good sign.

I hope it is great!

There were a few places that opened there and went under -- trying to do greasy steam table mall food.

I think something cheap and good like "Teriyaki Boy" or Burritoville would be good -- something "non chain" and that is great, healthy and affordable would be even better.

I hope this place is great!
