I'm glad you asked. I've been going to SportsCare in Hoboken the last several weeks. They just opened a new location one block from the Hoboken PATH station. My therapist, Neha Desai, transferred there from Jersey City. She is in charge of the place. Brand new equipment. Very convenient. Nice people.

I'm surprised by your comments.

I'm always treated aggressively and the results have been great. Carl also directs me to do alot of work at home between visits to his office - and I actually do it - which I'm sure has helped with my good results.

Thanks for the additional comments.

Sammy, I went to S&G several years ago after I had surgery for a ruptured bicep. I found the vibe very "low rent" compared to the PT clinic associated with my surgeon's practice on University Pl. The people were nice, but the treatment I received was not from his experience but from a protocol he downloaded, and was WAY too conservative. I progressed more from just using the arm, and my surgeon was thrilled with my recovery. I would prefer not to return.

I highly recommend Complete Physical Rehabilitation in downtown Jersey City. They're extremely friendly, helpful, and informative. They answered all my questions and concerns and they really, really helped.

I went to them for several months and I was treated by Dr. James Pumarada and Humberto. As painful as the rehab was, they gave me the tough love that I needed and I couldnt have asked for a better experience. Ive seen them work with other patients and they were always nurturing and encouraging.

They are located across the street from the main post office in Jersey City, right above Grand Banks. As far distance from the PATH, its about 4 blocks from the Exchange Place station.

Hope you get better.

Several years back I received treatment at Kessler for a back injury and found them to be very helpful and professional. Fortunately I haven't needed to go back, but if I needed therapy, I'd go back in a second.

Does anyone have more to add to this thread?

I need to get serious about my back and get me to therapy. I'm figuring either Sportscare or Kessler, since being so close to HP they give me the least excuse not to go. I'll check and see if they take Oxford tomorrow.

Everyone tells me the difference between a good and bad PT is tremendous, that it's an art. But other than threads like this how do you know? I really hate how managed care has broken the old referral system, where you doctor sent you to someone he/she knew and trusted not to be a hack. Now they just shrug and you're left throwing darts at a list.

I started physical therapy at SportsCare for a hamstring strain in January. I highly recommend this place. I find SportsCare much better than Hudson Physical Therapy in Hoboken. I received better service at SportsCare than I did at Hudson Physical Therapy in Hoboken in 2003.

Sportscare is at 550 Newark Avenue near the courthouse. Bus#80 stops at the corner. The place is new and spacious. There are six tables. Everyone gets their own table to do exercise on. The staff is friendly and professional. Neha Desai is the director. She is always cheerful. And she clearly enjoys working with people and helping people.

SportsCare always starts me with a heat pad. Then, I do some exercises and use the machines. Afterwards, I get ultrasound therapy and massage therapy. At the end, I get a cold pad.

Now that I have something to compare to, I can say more about my experience at Hudson in Hoboken in 2003. At Hudson, they did not give me any heat pad in the beginning or a cold pad at the end. At Hudson, it was cramp and crowded, and the assistants were not as attentive. Hudson didn't process my change of address properly. I got a call from Hudson two years later saying that I owe them money. Luckily, they gave me 10% off if I pay with my credit card on the phone immediately.

I have been treated for three separate injuries/conditions at Strulowitz and Gargiulo, 1 Nardone Place (about a 10 min. walk from JSQ). I understand they are also about to open a Bayonne office. I give them the highest possible recommendation for physical therapy.

My primary therapists have been Carl Gargiulo and Jimmy Voorhees. Both have doctoral degrees and are extremely personable. I have always been satisfied with the results of my treatment.

It is a very busy office with many therapists but I always felt that I received very personalized attention from any member of the staff I dealt with. The facility is well-maintained and the operation is efficient, keeping wait-time to a minimum.

Ivy Rehab was great when I hurt my knee, and you can't get closer to the PATH.

I also went to Kessler on 10th and agree that they were a bit unprofessional. I don't think there's a Grechen there anymore.

While they were unprofessional in that they were loud and chatting a lot about their personal lives, etc - I do have to say that I gained a lot of strength back and really felt the results. I would go back there again if I had to (cross my fingers that I don't) since the location is great, the facility is clean, and they got the job done for me.

A couple years ago I went to see Grechen at Kessler on 10th and Jersey. She was great. I'm not sure if she's still there, but it's a good place to start looking...

Help! I'm looking for an excellent physical therapist. Broke my wrist 3 months ago, just got out of the cast and need to start working on it. Could you recommend a registered person?

I went to the Hudson PT at Journal Square in 1998, I had an issue with my hip that the therapist resolved in about 1/2 hour - no lie! Since then I've had other problems (unrelated) that unfortunately, haven't been resolved as easily. I have no complaints with them, they had long hours and were convenient to the PATH train. Wait, they did try to bill me for services I had already paid for. I called them and never heard anything else about it.

Went to Kessler too. Therapist was very good, but, receptionist played loud music all the time and carried loud often inappropriate conversations with friends and other patients. Also the few times I went, patients would bring in friends and family, who would sit around and talk loudly while the therapist was working on you. Very little privacy, very little quiet.
Hudson Physical therapy is bustling but more professionally run.

In 2003, I went to Hudson Physical Therapy for a pinched nerve and also for a hip strain. They were very professional. The place is very convenient. They took my insurance, which is Aetna.

I went to Ivy Rehab in Hoboken. It's about a 3-minute walk from the PATH. between newark and observer on hudson (above where the yoga place is and next to some crappy bar and across the street from another crappy bar)

they are very cool there.
