Somebody should challenge the legality of a property tax to specifically finance the arts. That is absolute horse sh*t for sure. People want art, they can donate money to the museums and other organizations. Property taxes are high enough in Jersey City, the economy is really bad and this is just ridiculous. Our schools are a necessity. While I might offend people if I say the arts is a luxury, we have plenty of it already and the general public should not have to subsidize it for those that need more of it. This is just unacceptable.

Bayonne: $39.2 million
East Newark: $255,403

Jersey City: $145.8 million
North Bergen: $17.6 million

Our tax bills should reflect what we are paying for others. Rent control increases are related to the Consumer Price Index and affordable housing does not pay any increase. So the increase will be on the small homeowner. If yoiu are paying $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000 in taxes, what part of your bill subsidizes others? That should be on our tax bills.

In the year of a pandemic, JC has now voted in an Arts tax and now a significant increase in school tax which will hit the homeowners (not renters). This is absolute horse sh$t!!!

It took the Jersey City Board of Education five attempts to approve a budget for the 2021-22 school year.
