It may retain the name Jersey City, but will never be anything like the city I was born into.
Greed is now shaping the environment like it never has before in the city's history.
It's a shame what is happening to long time residents. In speaking with someone who runs a food pantry in the Van Vorst area I was shocked when he told me how many older city residents are on line for food stuffs.

I've loved living in JC for a long time. But the taxes are choking us. It breaks my heart that we are considering leaving but at some point, we just can't continue to pay more. I'm watching neighbors who I've known for decades and they are leaving too. This is incredibly sad for us. JC will become home to the uber rich and dirt poor. The middle class will be gone.

I took a screen shot of Anne Villers on facebook who commented that if someone cannot afford to pay the art tax in JC then they should leave the city. I commented that I actually know many people who are afraid of additional taxes and some were forced to sell. These art people want their affordable housing and they also want others to pay for their art tax.

A: Because Biden was elected President.

Enjoy your new Arts Trust Fund tax as well, which I gleefully voted for (and I say that as a homeowner).

It's too bad Yvonne once again failed to mobilize her NIMBY army to stop it. What a lovely bitch slap to all the conservative morons on this forum, hahaha. Enjoy the next 4 years, snowflakes.

And idiots like you are why no one has civil discussions anymore. Between your obsession with Yvonne and generally unintelligible drivel, it?s no wonder Trump got elected 4 years ago in the first place. Go away already. No one here likes you.

Interesting that the city council is still pushing no increase in rents for a 3rd time, while the homeowner got a 20% increase in taxes. Homeowners are now second class citizens in JC.

How is this mud slinging ? Why should she have to go back to her accountant, spend time and money just to get a comparative answer and confirmation from fellow tax payers ? Isn't this what this board is for anyway. And by the way Yvonne makes a good point, read your numbers.

I thought her response was quite sensible and suggesting the mayor and city council get their act together to pass a budget on time is not exactly in the category of political mud slinging.
Just sayin'

Here is the problem, Feb, May and August were estimated bills. If you have copy of August, it actually says estimated bill. When the budget was struck, the actual numbers were fixed but the tax increase goes back to the first 3 quarters. If the mayor and city council got their act together, there would be no estimated bills if the budget was struck on time. So yes, it is a shock.

Lets just toss a bunch of wild numbers like 20% into the wind and ask why my taxes are higher without providing any context. Yvonne must have guided you here.

property tax has been pretty consistent but i just noticed while paying 4th quarter bill, it went from ~$1000 from last year 4th quarter to ~$1200 this year, so about a 20% increase.

I remember seeing in the mail that jersey city property tax remains flat with no increase, does anyone know why the big jump.

Here is the Jersey Journal article on the budget. It is dated August 26, 2020. The tax quarters are Feb, May, August, and November. By the time the budget was passed, Feb, May, and August was paid, that only left November so the tax increase that should have been felt in Feb, May and August was piled in the November quarter. The November quarter must be paid by November 10th. https://www.nj.com/hudson/2020/08/city ... ter-marathon-meeting.html

Does that mean everyone will see a similar increase in their 4th quarter property tax bill. Thanks

Wtf are you talking about. What am I trying to bait, what wild numbers - those are my quarterly bills, increase of $200 is 20%

If you got nothing useful to say, then just screw off. Waste of oxygen

The first 3 quarter were estimated bills. The bill is finalized when the budget was adopted. You are looking at the final bill from the 3 branches of government: municipal, board of ed, and county. Don't forget the board of ed will continue to go up for 7 years.
