Free turkeys and Thanksgiving meals in Hudson County

It?s time to give thanks and many return the favor for the good fortune bestowed upon them by volunteering their time or donating turkeys to those less fortunate. Here?s a list of turkey giveaways and places for those in need to get a Thanksgiving Day meal in Hudson County.

Jersey City

Jersey City businessman Bruce Alston, in partnership with Aldine Capital, and Friends of Jackson Hill-Greenville, will donate 1,000 frozen turkeys to families and organizations in Jersey City on November 25. Turkeys can be picked up at noon at Carolyn?s Restaurant, 74 Orient Ave. Recipients must present photo ID and a utility bill, One turkey per household.

St. John the Baptist Church will have its Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Nov. 28 at the Golden Doors School Auditorium, 3044 Kennedy Blvd. Seating times are 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m. Food will be served until 1 p.m. Over 400 meals will be delivered to those in need. For more information, call Jimmy King at 551-580-4126. Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving Day anytime from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sawyer Smith Residential will have its 12th annual Thanksgiving Drive on Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26. The drive will benefit the Hyacinth Foundation. On Nov. 25, non-perishable food items can be dropped off at 242 10th St., Ste 6, Jersey City, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 26, volunteers can help assemble baskets at the Biergarten at 1422 Grand St., Hoboken. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Monique?s Techniques, 124 Storms Ave., will have its 23rd annual community Thanksgiving Day dinner on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For delivery service to senior citizens, call 201-433-0477. All volunteers must register at ttsu.me/mohairthanksgiving.

Hard Grove Restaurant, 284 First St., will have its 2019 Thanksgiving meal for the community in need on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact Dr. Anna Villafane at 201-963-8827 or at hardgroverestaurant@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.

Clair Memorial United Methodist Church, 679 Communipaw Ave., will have its Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon to 3 p.m. All are invited to attend.
